FCPS Walking Wednesdays

Ruby Bridges

Many of you may have heard of Walking Wednesdays as a new initiative for FCPS Safe Routes to School.  To normalize the school day, students and parents are invited to walk before their school day begins or after their school day ends.  This can be a walk around the block, to the bus stop or anywhere within your neighborhood. Click here for more information on FCPS Walking Wednesdays.

On Wednesday, November 18, Walking Wednesdays will celebrate Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day to honor the courage of Ruby Bridges’ historic walk as she was escorted by Federal Marshals to school each day starting on November 14, 1960.  That makes this year the 60th anniversary of her integrating New Orleans Public Schools.  This is a perfect opportunity to teach our students about the Civil Rights Movement and make connections to today’s collective efforts for change by encouraging them to take part in this Walking Wednesday!

Online Book Fair

TCES Online Book Fair 11/30 – 12/13

Dear Terra Centre Families,

The Scholastic Book Fair will be back soon! While the fair will be exclusively online this year, we still plan on making it a fun and joyous experience for our kids!

Features include:

  • A 360⁰ Interactive Virtual Fair that you can “walk through” to mimic the real magic of the school shopping experience
  • Terra Centre’s own online store, with a large selection of titles at the right price points and free shipping of all-book orders over $25 directly to your home
  • Browse by title, meet popular authors, and do it all from the comfort and safety of your home
  • Every dollar you spend using our special link during the fair window will benefit the school library directly (25% back) to allow us to purchase more books for everyone to enjoy!

Save the dates of November 30 to December 13, 2020. Much more information to come!

We can’t wait to “see” you at the fair!

GROUP 5:

  • November 16 – tentative date
  • Kindergarten
  • Intensive Support Needs (students instructed w/ modified curriculum for at least 50% of their core courses and instructed in special education settings 50% or more of their instructional day). Students who elect all-virtual learning will continue to receive four days of teacher-led instruction at home.

MONDAYS

  • In either format, Mondays will be a full day of independent learning for students to give our teachers more time to prepare and plan the week’s lessons.
  • This will begin on Monday, November 9, 2020 for Group 5 (Kindergarten).
  • This will begin on Monday, November 16, 2020 for Group 6 (Grades 1 & 2).

RETURN TO SCHOOL TEACHER WORKDAYS

To give teachers time to prepare and plan for in person instruction, the following dates will be teacher workdays and student independent learning days.

The Robinson and Lake Braddock Sports Leadership classes are hosting a sock drive to help the homeless population in Burke. Paperless Report Cards

Paperless Report Cards in SIS ParentVUE!

With the approaching end of the 1st quarter, you have the option to “Go Paperless” which will allow parents to receive online progress reports/report cards.

To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless."

  • All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports.
  • The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level.
  • If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to access PVUE periodically to check in on their student(s)’ attendance and to view progress reports at the end of each quarter.

If you have not yet created a ParentVue account, please contact our SIA, Dee Cunningham, at dmcunningham@fcps.edu. She can provide you with an activation code. Details on what can be found in ParentVUE and how to activate a new ParentVUE account using the activation code can be found here - Student Information System - SIS Parent Account Overview
