Dear Glen Forest Parents & Guardians:

Thank you so much for attending the first Coffee Talk for this school year! It was a delight to meet and greet those who joined us. Mark your calendars as we will be hosting our Coffee Talks on the 3rd Thursday of each month 8:30-9:30 am. We’ll be sending out chat reminders with the link via emails prior to each chat. We really hope you will join in on these events. These Coffee Talks are meant to be informal with a question and answer format. Spanish and Arabic interpreters are available. Please plan to come, we’d love to have a great turnout😊

Monday, October 26 was a fantastic day at GFES! It was our first day of in person instruction for our first cohort of returning students. Our students (and adults!) had a great day and it was good to be back in school. As we continue to phase in more students, we will follow the Virginia guidelines for fire drills and lockdown drills. Our fire drills occur on a weekly basis for the next 4 weeks and then once a month for the remainder of the school year. Our lockdown drills have been scheduled with two in November and one in March. Please reach out should you have any questions.

Return to School Options

Today, Friday, October 30, is the deadline for parents to inform us of your return to school option for your child(ren). As we begin to pivot to the Concurrent Model, you have the option of in person instruction or virtual instruction for the remainder of this school year. Please call the main office with your option choice. The telephone number is 703-578-8000 from 9 am to 5 pm.

Food Distribution News

As many schools will be used as polling places on November 3rd, Food and Nutrition Services will not be providing meal service on Election Day. We will provide two days-worth of meals on November 2nd. This is very similar to how we distribute weekend meals on Fridays.

Return to School Health Protocols

Parents/guardians who chose in-school instruction for their child will be required to complete a Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form as students are phased back into in-person learning. The document indicates the parental/ guardian’s agreement and commitment to completing a daily health screening prior to sending the student to school and also to keep ill students at home. These health screenings will be done on an honor basis and will not be required to be submitted to the school each day.   A FAMILY GUIDE FOR 2020-21 RETURN TO SCHOOL is available at this link: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/Family%20Guide%20Return%20to%20School.pdf

Also, the Health Room at GFES is fully operational. If you have questions or needs as related to health and medical, please contact Sandra Fitzgerald, health room aide, at 703-578-8030.

Progress Reports

Did you know you have the option of receiving a paper-version Progress Report OR an electronic Progress Report? Parents and/or guardians can opt to “Go Paperless” at any time by logging into ParentVUE, going into “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless".  Parents should select this option prior to November 6th to ensure they do not receive a printed copy of the first quarter progress report. All parents who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent the mailing of progress reports.
