A Note from the Principals
Dear BRES Families and Friends,
We hope this email finds you safe and well. It was wonderful engaging in dialogue and answering questions this week during our BRES Principals' Virtual Office Hours: A Family Guide for 2020-21 Return to School. Below are links to the slide deck and recordings from each session for reference.
Just a reminder that parent modification to the FCPS July survey for selecting in-person (concurrent) or online (100% virtual) instruction is due to us no later than Friday, October 30 at 11:00pm using the following:
Thank you for your continued support as we continue this journey to deliver the best instruction for every BRES student.
Sincerely,
Jason Pensler, Principal and Susanne Shahidi, Assistant Principal
Want to go Paperless?
FCPS is trying to get all of the parents to opt in for paperless report cards. This is the message that some of the schools are sending out to their families-
With the approaching end of the 1st quarter, parents have the option to “Go Paperless” which will allow parents to receive online progress reports/report cards. To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless" option: Click here
All parents and/or guardians who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed progress reports. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level. If the associated parent and/or guardian has already selected “Go Paperless” for their secondary student, the option will now apply to any ES siblings as well.
If you have not activated your ParentVue account, you can email Ms. Neylon to request your activation key and instructions.

News from FCPS
New FCPS COVID-19 Dashboard
FCPS has launched a COVID-19 dashboard to share weekly COVID-19 cases that have been self-reported to us. Data is updated weekly on Friday by 1 p.m. Any cases occurring after that time are reported for the following week.
This data should be interpreted with caution as it only reflects cases that have been shared with FCPS through self-reporting and may not be aligned to future epidemiological investigations. This data is currently being shared from a division level, as opposed to school or work site, so that it does not jeopardize sharing personally identifiable, confidential health information involving FCPS students and staff. Case reports indicate the total number of COVID-19 cases self-reported to principals, administrators, and program managers. Reports were shared with the Fairfax County Health Department to initiate contact tracing.
Effective November 2, the FCPS COVID-19 dashboard will be disaggregated and will present case data by school and case type (student, staff, visitor) and data will be updated daily.
Updated information is available on the FCPS website.

All FCPS students (regardless of age) are eligible for free grab and go breakfast and lunch, as well as other county children, under the age of 18. Adults picking up meals for children should let staff know how many children meals they need. Adults may pay $2 for the meals as well.
The service will be available Monday - Friday only.
New for this fall: breakfast and lunch meals for Saturdays will be distributed at all sites and bus routes each Friday.
PLEASE NOTE: Updates to bus routes are posted each afternoon by 5pm. Changes will be marked as "new" or "updated".

FCPS Technology Resources and Supports
Parent Technology Help Desk To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7:00 a.m.to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.
Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and an interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)
FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.
These webpages are continuing to be updated as the situation for the 2020-21 school year evolves. The FAQ page includes a date by each question to identify the latest updates.
FCPS' Technology@Home program provides an opportunity for FCPS students and staff to purchase technology products at discounted rates. See how to save on technology products.
