Dear Families,
We hope you are doing well in these challenging times. Today, staff and families are due to finalize their decisions on in-person learning or virtual. We realize that making an updated decision for In-Person Concurrent instruction versus All-Virtual instruction is a difficult one- given the fact that there are still many unknowns about the details.
As I have responded to many of you already, the million dollar question we are getting is, “Will my child’s teacher stay the same if we choose _______?” Unfortunately our teaching assignments and structures will be determined once we know student/family decisions so we cannot answer that question at this time. We are all doing the best we can to make decisions based on what is best for our students – while taking into consideration the capacity and health considerations of our teachers and instructional staff. All of this to say that there is not an easy recipe for this work! What I can promise you is that we remain committed to knowing, loving and teaching your children- no matter their teacher or their setting. Thank you again for your support and encouragement through all of this.
Please note- EV offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 3rd as our building is being used as a balloting place. Please contact AA Christina Perry at cpperry@fcps.edu, Beth Levy AP at edlevy@fcps.edu, Keieownna Hightower AP at ksjohnsonhig@fcps.edu, or Kanchana Iyer Principal at kkiyer@fcps.edu.
Regards,
K. Iyer

What are the metrics that determine if FCPS changes their operating status?
Core Indicators
1.Number of new cases per 100,000 persons within the last 14 days
2.Percentage of RT-PCR tests that are positive during the last 14 days
3.Ability of the school to implement five (5) key mitigation strategies: masks, social distancing, hand/hygiene/respiratory etiquette, cleaning & disinfecting, and contact tracing
What is the current state of the ventilation/air filtration inside the school building and classrooms?
FCPS follows WHO, CDC and Virginia Health Department guidance to reduce the risk for exposure to coronavirus. Schools are designed to ventilate outdoor air throughout the day to reduce the buildup of pollutants and odors. Maintenance staff routinely conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, to ensure the systems are clean and working optimally. FCPS also follows guidance provided by industry experts. FCPS works closely with the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) to stay informed of the most up-to-date scientific knowledge and data available to help staff and the community better prepare for returning to school.
