Save the Date!
We need to hear from you! FCPS has made it clear that they intend to put Equity at the center of everything that we do as a school system. As Equity is all about ensuring that all voices are invited, heard and valued, we want to make sure that we are hearing from our community on some important matters that impact our students and their families.
On Thursday, October 29th at 7:30PM, LMS’ Principal, Mr. Erbrecht, and Equity Lead, Mr. Case, will be hosting an Equity Community Forum. If you are interested and able to offer your voice at that time, or cannot attend but would like your voice to be heard, please RSVP with this google form and you will receive a link to attend closer to the date of the event.
We look forward to see you there!

The 1st quarter of the school year ends on Friday, October 30. In previous school years, when we were using a traditional gradebook, the end of a quarter would signal the “closing of a book” and the grades earned by students would be permanent. Since Liberty Middle School is now using a rolling gradebook, students’ averages in the gradebook are fluid and students have ongoing opportunities to demonstrate additional learning and to earn improved grades.
|
The 1st quarter report card that you will see is only a snapshot of your student’s current progress at this point in time. Many students are currently in the process of completing assignments, retaking assessments, or working on a project that will be recorded in the gradebook in November. It may even seem that some of the grades have more weight than anticipated. All of that will change as additional grades are added. Having a rolling gradebook gives students an ongoing opportunity to experience success and to receive credit for the work they do.
Our vision at Liberty Middle School continues to be about empowering our students and igniting a passion for their learning. We are off to a great start by providing students with engaging virtual learning, social and emotional learning activities, and a rolling gradebook that supports and documents their ongoing progress. We look forward to continuing to provide positive learning experiences as we begin our 2nd quarter.
ParentVue: Go Paperless
Parents/Guardians may opt to “Go Paperless” for report cards! Opt in to receive “Paperless” Report Cards (that can be printed through ParentVUE) by following the instructions below:
Parents/Guardians can take advantage of the paperless option, by logging into ParentVUE, then going to “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless!". This is the only way to keep a paper report card from being generated for students at the secondary level. All parents who share the same address as the student must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option. See photo below.
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please contact Jenni Carnahan at jscarnahan@fcps.edu.
Students will be taking the Math Inventory computerized assessment in Math class during the first week in November. The inventory will provide an indication of how well students understand mathematical skills and concepts along a developmental continuum. Score reports will be shared with families when they are made available for sharing. Students enrolled in Geometry in middle school are exempt from the Math Inventory.
For questions about the Math Inventory, please contact Natalie Lissy, Assistant Principal, NSLissy@fcps.edu

Liberty MS is so excited to participate in some community service.
We hope you agree and want to invite you to participate in our efforts to help with Human Trafficking Victims. It is hard to say the exact number of victims, as it is believed that this crime is widely under reported. However, it is thought that the average age to begin trafficking is 15 years of age, and it is occurring in all areas of Northern Virginia.
Hope Bags are offered for individuals who are sexually exploited and are recovered by law enforcement partners. When the victims are recovered, they often have nothing with them other than the clothes that they wore while being trafficked. We are gathering products to put in the Hope Bags, which is vital for their first days of recovery. Specific items are requested for these bags. See document below.

If you would like to donate, we will be collecting the items listed from October 28, 2020 – November 6, 2020. We will provide a box for the items in our main office at Liberty MS. Please stop by during office hours to drop off your items. Thank you so much! Your donations are much appreciated. We will ensure that our Law Enforcement Partners receive the items in the month of November 2020.
If you have any questions about this project, contact Angie Huber, School Social Worker at aahuber@fcps.edu.
