The prices for paid breakfast and lunch are determined by the School Board and the price of reduced-price meals are established by the federal government.

Families who earn less than 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals and those with incomes between 130 and 185 percent of poverty level qualify for reduced-price meals.

We highly recommend all eligible families begin this process to ensure you are ready for a smooth start back to Cameron ES.

Here Comes The Bus Mobile App

bus

As a result of the Transportation Services' strategic plan, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has decided to pilot the Here Comes the Bus® mobile app at all FCPS locations.  Know when your bus is approaching your stop!  Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy to use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone.

How to Get Started

Using the app is EASY!  You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account (contact your child's school if you do not have an SIS Parent Account).  Please be sure to follow the detailed instructions below.

From a smartphone or tablet, download (for free) the Here Comes the Bus® app from the App Store or Google Play.

Please wait 24-48 hours after creating a new SIS Parent Account.

  1. Enter your email address associated with your SIS Parent Account.  Do Not Use the Student Login or Sign Up links.
  2. Enter FCPS school district code 28982.
  3. Enter your password associated with your SIS Parent Account.
  4. Click 'Login', just below password field.
  5. Next, you will be prompted to validate your account.  Please click the Validation Button (the app will close). Next, logon to your email account.
  6. Please open the validation email from Synovia and click the validate account link.  (If you do not receive email, check junk/spam folder)  A browser window will open.  Please close the browser window and return to the Here Comes the Bus® app.
  7. Repeat the previous login steps (Steps 1-4).
  8. Enter the name of your device.
  9. Close and log back onto the Here Comes the Bus® app.
  10. Under 'Students', you should see a list of your student(s) name.
  11. Confirm the information and you are ready to begin using Here Comes the Bus®.

Once signed-in, you can customize or edit features, including how the app will communicate with you, and the size and location of the notification radius around your child's bus stop.

Helpful Tips

The app tracks the bus route, not the student.

Sometimes we make bus substitutions and this can affect the accuracy of the Here Comes the Bus® app.  When a bus substitution is made, the Here Comes the Bus® app may not work.

Please note that no bus tracking service is 100 percent accurate; DO NOT assume the bus is not coming just because the app did not notify you!  If in doubt about the arrival of a bus, please contact the Transportation office that supports your child's school.

The bus stop associated with your child for morning and afternoon bus service is the location you can draw the radius around; the app does not track after school athletics, or any other transportation we provide.

School Year 2019-20 bus stop information for your student(s) will be available on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard).

You must have your SIS Parent Account information in order to use the app.  If you need your SIS Parent Account information, you must contact your child's school.  Transportation staff will NOT be able to provide this information to you.

Depending on your cell provider and coverage strength, notifications may be delayed due to bad cell phone reception.

Things to Know

How Does it Work?

Here Comes the Bus® uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to locate and track your child's school bus.  It is powered by software from Synovia Solutions, who are experts at tracking data, which they have been providing to fleet managers across North America for over 15 years.

Is the Information Private and Secure?

Here Comes the Bus® uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communications between your web browser and the site is encrypted and secure.  (That is what the S in 'HTTPS' stands for - secure)

Do I Need Separate Accounts for Each of My Children?  Or Separate Accounts if We All Want to be Notified Separately?

Separate accounts will NOT be needed.  You may log into the app using your SIS Parent Account email address and password.  Once signed-in, click on 'Students' and you should see a list of your student(s) name.  This can be a shared account.   If each family member wants to be notified separately, click on 'Settings', then 'Contacts', and 'Add Email'.

Digital Citizenship Week is October 19-23, 2020. Being a digital citizen is all about taking ownership of our actions and using technology responsibly and respectfully. During Digital Citizenship Week, our goal is to teach kids how to learn, create, and participate responsibly in the digital world.

Interested in more resources to empower you to help your kids to be strong digital citizens? Check out the student activities, interactives, and videos from Wide Open School.  You can also check the reviews of movies TV shows, and books at Common Sense Media for parents.

Parent / Teacher Conferences

PTC

As we near the end of the 1st quarter, teachers will be reaching out to you to schedule a parent teacher conference.  These will be especially important this year as teachers will share information about your child’s participation and progress in distance learning that may not be easy to capture in a progress report.   This is also an important opportunity for setting goals to help make the learning most successful.

Book Character Fun Day October 30th

sb

We are pleased to announce the Cameron Book Character Fun Day will be held virtually on Friday, October 30th. This is a school-wide event where students, as well as teachers, are encouraged to dress as their favorite book character.

Students should not dress in scary costumes or wear masks.  All character costumes should connect to a book. Following Cameron’s tradition our principal, Mr. Johnson, will end the event with a read aloud of a special story online. The video presentation link will be shared at a later date.

We would love to see your BOOtiful faces!

See you there,

Ms. Thomas                                                Ms. Lanier
