1. AP Opt-Out Forms Due TODAY!

FCPS encourages all students to take AP tests for courses in which they are enrolled. However, students will have the opportunity to opt-out of the test(s) by filling out an Opt-Out form. The report of student’s previous tests and current AP course enrollment was mailed last week to assist in the decision-making process. AP students must make Opt-Out decisions by today, Friday, October 23rd. Parents will be billed in December 2020 for tests that exceed the six FCPS funded tests.

To return the completed form, please scan and email to Mrs. Glover (DAGlover@fcps.edu) in Woodson’s Student Services Office. The completed form may also be dropped off in the Student Services Office.

If you have any questions, please contact Kathleen Guinee (kpguinee@fcps.edu).

2. Underclass Photos

Woodson will have underclass yearbook photos taken by Lifetouch on Monday November 9th, Monday November 23rd, and Monday November 30th from 8:00am until 3:30pm.

Please sign up for a time slot using this Sign Up Genius Link , and we ask that you enter the students name that shows in SIS and not a nickname or parent/guardian name.

On your scheduled date for your yearbook photo, please arrive at Woodson HS and enter the parking lot via Whitacre Road. Then proceed towards the front of the building and around the side to Entrance 5. There will be signs indicating which way to enter and staff will direct you accordingly.

We ask that everyone in the vehicle wear a mask and remain in the vehicle until a staff member motions for the student only to exit and proceed to the Health Check-in table. Once complete, a staff member will direct the student into the Aux Gym, where photos will be taken. Students will exit the building through Door 6.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Paula DiSalvo pdisalvo@fcps.edu or Dan Checkosky djcheckosky@fcps.edu.

3. Go Paperless - Report Cards

Parents and/or guardians can now opt to “Go Paperless” in ParentVUE and receive only online report cards.

This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the report cards for secondary students and progress reports for ES students.

To take advantage of the paperless options, BOTH parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless."  All parents who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed report cards.

The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all their associated students, no matter what school level.  This selection must be made prior to Friday, November 6th.

4. Message from Dr. Floyd

Hello Woodson Cavalier Families:

Next week is the last week of the 1st quarter!

Parents, this is the time to review your child’s grades in SIS. I’m hearing concerning reports that a large number of students are not engaging in class. Please know that we have an unusually large number of students who log on to class and then disappear. Teachers do a number of quick, non-content related check ins during class and the lack of responses indicates a lack of participation.

If you have any ideas on helping students engage in online class please let me know!

Thursday, October 29th is PSAT day across Fairfax County Public Schools. This is an opportunity for our juniors to take the standardized test. As such, all of our staff members will be helping to proctor this test and therefore synchronous learning will be canceled for the day. Students will engage in asynchronous assignments and activities.

Please know that Friday, October 30th is the last day of the quarter and therefore some teachers may be allowing students to make up work that day in an asynchronous fashion versus holding classes synchronously. Please check your individual class sites for more information.

FCPS School Board is discussing the return of our general education students this winter. While this will be a positive means to increase connections, families (including teachers) may make a decision that is different than your choice. Please remember these are personal decisions and we must respect one another’s choices. While we do not have to agree on this issue, we must agree to get along.

Enjoy the fall weather this weekend, while socially distant.  Seniors… we have a fun event for you on campus next Friday… see below!

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay connected, Cavs!

Dr. Floyd
Principal

5. WTW Fall Senior Parade

Woodson Seniors!  Mark your calendars for Friday, October 30th from 3:15 to 5:15 PM. We will celebrate YOU with a Fall Senior Parade through the school parking lot.

We encourage you to dress up in a costume and/or decorate your car. Bikers and walkers are also welcome through the parade route.

There will be several checkpoints along the parade route where you will receive treats (candy) from your current and former teachers and staff. There will also be an opportunity for students to take pictures (following the CDC social distance and mask guidelines) at the football stadium, by the rock at door 2, and finally at the softball stadium.

More information regarding the parade route will be available early next week through students' fcpsschools.net accounts. Please use the Sign-up Genius link to indicate your time slot for the parade. If you have any questions, please email Dr. George Hewan at gkhewan@fcps.edu.

6. WTW Leadership Virtual Costume Contest

Hey Cavs! Despite online school, leadership wants your help in making this Halloween extra special. We are hosting a virtual costume contest!

Use the link bit.ly/wtwcostumecontest to submit your picture on Halloween (before 11:59 pm); you must use an FCPS account to access it. Look for a new link for voting to open on Monday, November 2nd so you can decide who you think had the best costume this Halloween.

We are looking forward to seeing all of your amazing costumes. Happy Halloween!
