BUSH HILL PILOT
Bush Hill Elementary School has been selected as a pilot location for a small group of students to return to in-person instruction for a designated period of time. The pilot will begin on Tuesday, October 27th and will run for one or more weeks. The pilot includes one first grade, one second grade, one third grade, and one fourth grade class. There will be approximately 40 students on site with classroom teachers and appropriate support staff. The other students in these classrooms will be attending at the same time virtually from home. All proper health and safety protocols will be adhered to for in-person instruction. The families of the selected classroom have been notified.
Every year students receive Students Rights and Responsibilities (SR & R) booklets. Typically parents are asked to review the booklet with their students and sign and return the last page of the booklet. As with many things, this process has been adapted to match our virtual learning world. Please use this link: http://bit.ly/BHESSRR to read the booklet with your student and submit your signature through the Google Form It is essential that we receive acknowledgement from all parents that they have read and reviewed the SR &R booklet with their student. Thank you.

To provide your parental consent for each student in your family, please follow this link and follow the provided directions. Provide consent.
This information is provided in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to provide you with information about the measures FCPS takes to keep student data secure when using digital tools. By completing the digital form linked below, you provide permission for your child to use the FCPS-approved online tools listed below as part of an instructional program.
Fairfax County Public Schools uses a variety of resources to support student learning. In cases where FCPS contracts with a vendor to host student information, FCPS requires that the vendor adhere to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts. FCPS does not have contracts with every instructional tool vendor. Many valuable instructional tools are governed by Terms of Service (TOS) and include both free and paid tools. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent.
Listed below are the digital tools that are used at your child’s school that require parental approval, and not all tools will be used by every student. The tools have been carefully reviewed to ensure that they align with the FCPS Learning Model and FCPS conducts the same technical evaluations for all products that use student information.
For information about the specific tools that will be used by your child, please contact your child’s teachers. You will be notified if additional tools are added to this list and given the opportunity to opt-in to tools that require parental permission. Additionally, FCPS may use digital tools that do not collect, use or share any personal information.
You can find more information about FCPS’ commitment to student privacy at Digital Privacy in FCPS and a list of all approved digital tools is viewable online in the FCPS Digital Ecosystem Library which has links to the vendors’ privacy notices and other useful information.
This permission will expire at the end of this school year, and can be revoked at any time by contacting the school. If you have questions about any of the digital resources listed below, please contact your child’s school.
As a result of the Transportation Services' strategic plan, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has decided to pilot the Here Comes the Bus® mobile app at all FCPS locations. Know when your bus is approaching your stop! Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that can simplify morning and afternoon routines for parents and students by giving them real-time bus location and text or email notification alerts, helping them get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and an easy to use customizable map that works on one or multiple devices, such as a tablet or smartphone.
How to Get Started
Using the app is EASY! You will need the FCPS school district code 28982 and a Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account (contact your child's school if you do not have an SIS Parent Account). Please be sure to follow the detailed instructions below.
From a smartphone or tablet, download (for free) the Here Comes the Bus® app from the App Store or Google Play.
Please wait 24-48 hours after creating a new SIS Parent Account.
- Enter your email address associated with your SIS Parent Account. Do Not Use the Student Login or Sign Up links.
- Enter FCPS school district code 28982.
- Enter your password associated with your SIS Parent Account.
- Click 'Login', just below password field.
- Next, you will be prompted to validate your account. Please click the Validation Button (the app will close). Next, logon to your email account.
- Please open the validation email from Synovia and click the validate account link. (If you do not receive email, check junk/spam folder) A browser window will open. Please close the browser window and return to the Here Comes the Bus® app.
- Repeat the previous login steps (Steps 1-4).
- Enter the name of your device.
- Close and log back onto the Here Comes the Bus® app.
- Under 'Students', you should see a list of your student(s) name.
- Confirm the information and you are ready to begin using Here Comes the Bus®.
Once signed-in, you can customize or edit features, including how the app will communicate with you, and the size and location of the notification radius around your child's bus stop.
Helpful Tips
The app tracks the bus route, not the student.
Sometimes we make bus substitutions and this can affect the accuracy of the Here Comes the Bus® app. When a bus substitution is made, the Here Comes the Bus® app may not work.
Please note that no bus tracking service is 100 percent accurate; DO NOT assume the bus is not coming just because the app did not notify you! If in doubt about the arrival of a bus, please contact the Transportation office that supports your child's school.
The bus stop associated with your child for morning and afternoon bus service is the location you can draw the radius around; the app does not track after school athletics, or any other transportation we provide.
School Year 2019-20 bus stop information for your student(s) will be available on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard).
You must have your SIS Parent Account information in order to use the app. If you need your SIS Parent Account information, you must contact your child's school. Transportation staff will NOT be able to provide this information to you.
Depending on your cell provider and coverage strength, notifications may be delayed due to bad cell phone reception.
Things to Know
How Does it Work?
Here Comes the Bus® uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to locate and track your child's school bus. It is powered by software from Synovia Solutions, who are experts at tracking data, which they have been providing to fleet managers across North America for over 15 years.
Is the Information Private and Secure?
Here Comes the Bus® uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communications between your web browser and the site is encrypted and secure. (That is what the S in 'HTTPS' stands for - secure)
Do I Need Separate Accounts for Each of My Children? Or Separate Accounts if We All Want to be Notified Separately?
Separate accounts will NOT be needed. You may log into the app using your SIS Parent Account email address and password. Once signed-in, click on 'Students' and you should see a list of your student(s) name. This can be a shared account. If each family member wants to be notified separately, click on 'Settings', then 'Contacts', and 'Add Email'.

Panther Families,
The Bush Hill Elementary School PTA hopes you are all keeping well and are as excited as our kids are to see their teachers and classmates this school year—virtually or in person. During this unique school year, maintaining our sense of community and school spirit is as important as ever. With the quick switch to virtual learning in the spring, the PTA postponed elections for this school year. We are now ready to solicit nominations for the 2020-2021 PTA Board. We hope you’ll hear our call to action!
We are seeking nominations for the following positions:
President*
Vice President, Membership
Vice President, Fundraising
Treasurer*
Secretary
The two *starred* positions need to be filled in order for the PTA to remain in good standing.
Please see the attached nomination form (IN THE FILES FOLDER) and consider nominating yourself or another PTA member to serve on the PTA Board. Nominations are due by October 26th and may be emailed to leilonioakes@hotmail.com.
The PTA will present the nominations via email no later than October 30th and will give members one week to vote. Please note that due to the virtual nature of the election, we will hold the vote via exception, which means that if you vote NO, you need to email the President with your no vote by November 6th.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Bush Hill PTA Nomination Committee
