Dear Parents and Guardians:
As we continue to adapt to the challenges of learning during a pandemic, we would like to continue to promote and support as many safe activities as possible. Clubs and activities have been a major source of student involvement in our school; therefore, we want to continue the tradition of student participation through our clubs and activities.
Starting Tuesday, October 20 during the last 35 minutes of 3rd period each week, students may work on assignments, meet with a teacher on a prearranged basis, or attend a virtual extracurricular activity meeting. Teachers will continue to teach social-emotional and academic skills for the first 45 minutes of 3rd period. Staff who sponsor a club or activity will be present in the virtual meeting space.
The opportunity to meet during 3rd period will only be allowed while we are in the online learning phase of instruction. When we return to in person instruction, virtual extracurricular activity meetings will not be allowed during 3rd period.
Updated Tuesday/Thursday 3rd Period Schedule
Starting Tuesday, October 20
|
9:45-10:30 Learning Seminar
Students engage in social-emotional learning and relationship building to ensure they are connected to the school community.
|
10:30-11:05 Student Choice
Students may use this time to:
meet with teachers by appointment
attend virtual club/activity meetings
work independently on asynchronous work
|
If your student is not a member of a club or activity, please encourage him/her to get involved. Many clubs and activities have pages on Schoology, so students can easily join and access meetings.
Stay healthy; be safe; GO BULLDOGS!

This form contains the list of AP exams taken in high school and their 20-21 AP courses. FCPS pays the exam fee for the first 6 exams a student takes. Students who choose to take one or more AP tests beyond the six FCPS-funded tests will be charged a fee of $95 per AP test.
If the student would like to opt out of one or more of their exams this year, please check the box next to the exam(s) and provide a parent signature at the bottom of the AP Opt Out form.

NCTE/ELATE Award Winners
Please join me in congratulating Deborah Van Trees who along with her GMU colleague, Jonathan Marine received the 2020 English Language Arts Teacher Educators (ELATE) James Moffett Award. Their research proposal is to study the impact of writing conferences as they move the onus for the conference and feedback to the students rather than the teacher. It is a continuation of the student engagement movement, but the students take up far more responsibility for their own participation as writers and peer reviewers. They will be recognized at the ELATE Virtual Event on November 20 and present their results at the 2021 NCTE Annual Convention in Louisville, KY.
