CES Weekly Update 10_19_2020

Principal's Message

Last week we celebrated Indigenous People's Day. This year our 6th grade team continues with an Equity committee led by Ms. Mabile.  Student leaders on the committee created a wonderful array of posters to celebrate this day and educate our Chesterbrook community.  These posters were shared by classroom teachers last week. Thank you to our 6th grade students for your creativity and efforts to inform our community on this new holiday: Catherine, Connor, Jay, Layla, Cora, Audrey, Abby, Henry, Kiara, Katherine and Ella. I'm proud of you!

Last week, the FCPS school board met with the FCPS Leadership team to discuss and determine a plan for our children to return to the school building 2 days per week. On 10/26 we have a very limited number of newcomer English Language Learners returning to the building on Monday mornings.  Kindergarten students would be on track to return 2 days a week beginning the week of 11/16 with 1st and 2nd grade following two weeks later and 3rd - 6th after winter break.

There is a town hall tonight with Dr. Brabrand to discuss the return to in-person plan from 7-8PM. The event will be livestreamed on fcps.edu and available on Cable TV Channel 99. Please email questions to ReturntoSchool@fcps.edu before the Town Hall, or call 1-800-231-6359 during the event to ask a question on air.

Parents will be asked soon to confirm their selection of all virtual or hybrid for the remainder of the school year. This information will be sent in a separate communication for your review and follow up.

I plan to hold a parent coffee to discuss information on return plans with our community and answer your questions.

Have a wonderful week!

New ParentVUE "Go Paperless" Feature for Elementary Progress Reports

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that FCPS has offered a PDF version of the progress report and ES parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports.

Parents will still receive a final report card at the end of the year. This feature also exists for High and Middle School students. After logging into ParentVue, go to My Account and check the "Go Paperless" option.

Positivity Project for Families

P2 For Families is live and available for our families! This resource is a transformative way to connect P2 to our students’ homes.  P2 for Families is an easy and effective way for families to discuss the importance of character strengths and positive relationships, especially during these unique times of virtual learning. Each character strength follows a 1-1-3 model: 1 quote, 1 video, and 3 questions to drive conversations around character at home.

P2 for Families can be found as “drop-down” under our Resources page and as a direct link here. Most pages are password protected and the password is: P2 (a capital letter “P” and the number “2”). We hope that our families enjoy this new resource this school year!

Family Fun Activity

Let's Decorate Pumpkins. Chesterbrook would like to have a pumpkin decorating contest.  Families can work together on a pumpkin or submit a pumpkin for each child if you wish.

Cubside Pickup

Curbside Library Check Out

Students can log in to Follett Destiny using their student ID number and password to browse books through the Chesterbrook library catalog. Each student can place a maximum of 5 books on hold.  Additionally, students or adults can complete a Google form to request types of books instead of specific titles.  You can always email Ms. Reid directly to request books.

Ms. Reid will gather books from the Chesterbrook library, check them out to the student, put books in a labeled bag and place them outside of the main office. Students will receive an email to let them know when their books are ready for pick up. Curbside pick-up will be available Monday through Friday outside of the main office from 8:30 – 3:30.

If you have books to return they can be placed in a return bin outside of the main office. Books will be isolated for 7 days.

Contact the librarian, Ms. Meredith Reid, with any questions, comments, or concerns. mareid@fcps.edu
