 General Information
Attendance Reminder
We have found that many parents/students are emailing teachers directly if a student is going to be absent. Please make sure you are also sending this communication to our attendance office. Information for reporting all day or partial day absences can be found here.
“Go Paperless” Report Card Option Reminder
This is a reminder that you have the opportunity to opt to “Go Paperless” in ParentVUE and receive only online report cards. This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the report cards for secondary students. To take advantage of the paperless options, parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless" All parents who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed report cards. The “Go Paperless” option will apply to all your students, no matter what school level.
SIS Weekly Progress Reports to Parents Began Monday, October 5, 2020
If you have registered for SIS ParentVUE and have a primary email address recorded in ParentVUE, you can receive your student’s Weekly Progress Report via email. For the 2020-21 school year, Weekly Progress Reports began on Monday, October 5, 2020. This report provides a summary of your student’s grades for the current quarter. To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE account and verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab.
If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports, and click on “Update account.” Once your email is confirmed, return to the “My Account” tab to activate and select your preferences for receiving these reports. Emails will be sent according to your selected preferences. Weekly Progress Reports for all of your middle and high school students will be included in one email. For additional help, refer to the quick reference guide for FCPS parents/guardians.
Parents can also access student grades through ParentVUE via the Grade Book tab.

Students who have an IEP or 504 do not automatically have College Board accommodations. Paperwork must be submitted to Oakton by December 11, 2020, to allow for processing prior to the College Board deadline; however, we encourage students to submit paperwork as early as possible. All paperwork is to be given to Shelley Wiederhold, SSD Coordinator at Oakton High School. Each of the following must be completed:

College Board Local Application Form
Processing for accommodations can take between 7-12 weeks, so we must have the paperwork in by December 11, 2020 to process before AP Testing in May. Paperwork should be delivered to Oakton High School, to the attention of Shelley Wiederhold, or emailed to swiederhold@fcps.edu

 Upcoming Events
Cougar Cabaret
Oakton Chorus is continuing the tradition of presenting our fall Cougar Cabaret! Cougar Cabaret 2020 ~ “Quarantunes” will be presented this Friday and Saturday – October 23 & 24 @ 7pm. Members of the Chorus will present solos and even some duets LIVE in a virtual setting (BBCU). The poster is below and includes the QR code to attend virtual shows each night.
Despite the sound challenges with using a virtual platform, we still value presenting live performance rather than recorded performance. Nothing compares to the feeling and experience of performing live for an audience – even if virtually.
These have been hard times for the students to not be able to make music together. It was important that we make this event happen in whatever way possible. We hope that you will be able to “tune” in to hear some of these incredible performances!
CONTRIBUTE TO OHS BAND’S VIRTUAL TAG DAY
OHSTAGDAY.ORG
This year, even though our performances are on hold, our band will march on! In place of our regular door to door donation collections, Oakton Band is holding a Virtual Tag Day, taking donations online and by mail through October. If you have already donated, thank you!
We understand that many families in our community have been deeply changed by current events and cannot support us with the generosity of years’ past. However, if you are able to give, the band needs your support more than ever this year. This year, band students are fundraising toward instruments, equipment, repairs, specialized instructors, student leadership training and band community events.
Go to: OHSTAGDAY.ORG to support the Band Boosters. Or mail a check payable and to the attention of: BBOHS at 2900 Sutton Road, Vienna 22181
