1. Underclass Photos

Woodson will have underclass yearbook photos taken by Lifetouch on Monday November 9th, Monday November 23rd, and Monday November 30th from 8:00am until 3:30pm.

Please sign up for a time slot using this Sign Up Genius Link , and we ask that you enter the students name that shows in SIS and not a nickname or parent/guardian name.

On your scheduled date for your yearbook photo, please arrive at Woodson HS and enter the parking lot via Whitacre Road. Then proceed towards the front of the building and around the side to Entrance 5. There will be signs indicating which way to enter and staff will direct you accordingly.

We ask that everyone in the vehicle wear a mask and remain in the vehicle until a staff member motions for the student only to exit and proceed to the Health Check-in table. Once complete, a staff member will direct the student into the Aux Gym, where photos will be taken. Students will exit the building through Door 6.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Paula DiSalvo pdisalvo@fcps.edu or Dan Checkosky djcheckosky@fcps.edu.

NEW News

2. Message from Dr. Floyd

Good afternoon Woodson Families:

Today marks two weeks from the end of the first quarter. Teachers are feverishly working to get grades into SIS as quickly as students are turning in assignments. Please encourage your child to get work in on time so that timely feedback can be provided prior to assessments.

We are excited to have been given the green light to do small outdoor activities with some groups of students. As we make plans, we will be in touch to invite students to campus while maintaining social distancing and health protocols. I am thrilled to be able to get our students back on campus. Please stay tuned for plans as we only found this out yesterday.

Please have a restful weekend. We love our Cavaliers and if you need anything, please reach out! cefloyd@fcps.edu.

Stay healthy, stay safe, and stay positive,

Dr. Floyd
Principal

Textbook Distribution

3. Textbooks/Supplies Locker Item Distribution -

LAST CHANCE

Please know that we will have one last textbook/supplies and locker distribution on Monday, October 19th.  While we have most textbooks, some textbooks have not shipped as of today so please have your child check with their teacher before signing up. Teachers will be sharing with their classes if their class has a hard copy textbook or supplies to pick up.

At this time we will also have those items from lockers that need to be returned to students from the 2019-2020 school year.  If you are not sure whether or not you have locker items a separate email will be sent individually to these students.

Schedule for Pickup

Monday October 19, 7:30-9:30am, 4-6pm

There is no sign up.  Please come when you can during the timeframe listed above. Only students who have been assigned textbooks or supplies from their teachers or have locker items left from SY2019-2020 need to pick up these items.

If you have books to be returned or grabbed the wrong book feel free to return at this time too.

Parking & Building Entry

All parents / guardians / students should arrive at Woodson HS and enter the parking lot via Whitacre Road and proceed to the front of the building by Door 18 (next to auditorium). There will be staff directing you accordingly.

Students only (not parents) must enter the building via Door #18 (next to auditorium). Students will be required to answer a health questionnaire prior to entry, wear a mask and maintain social distance. Once inside the building, students will be directed to follow a specific route collecting their textbooks/supplies.

4. This Is My Brave - 5 WTW Students in Show

After many months of hard work, our DC Area cast of "This Is My Brave" is taking the virtual stage and there are FIVE Woodson students in our show this weekend!

The show will broadcast this Sunday, October 18th, at 4PM ET on YouTube live. You can register to see the event here

If you're not able to join us, please still register so that you will receive the link to watch the show on YouTube later.

"This Is My Brave" hosts storytelling performances across the United States each year, giving everyday community members a chance to stand on stage and share their personal experiences with mental illness or substance use disorders. Many are sharing stories publicly for the very first time. Cast members feel seen, understood, and less alone, and audience members learn more about and empathize with performers.

6. SEAL Ambassador Leaders

Student Equity Ambassador Leader (SEALS) is a leadership program that amplifies student voice and provides an increased understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion through leadership development, projects and relevant experiences of high school students.

The goal of SEALS is to empower students to take an active role in fostering a school culture of inclusiveness and creating a welcoming and culturally responsive environment for students, families and staff. For more information on SEALS please check out the Program Overview.

Woodson’s Equity Leads chose students who are not currently in leadership roles but have the potential to share their voice with school leaders and other high school students. These are students we believe will thrive with the opportunity to connect with other students outside of Woodson.

Congratulations to sophomore, DJ Lawrence, and junior, Christopher Little on being selected to serve as Student Equity Ambassador Leaders for the 2020-2021 school year.

9. Go Paperless - Report Cards

Parents and/or guardians can now opt to “Go Paperless” in ParentVUE and receive only online report cards.

This will not impact any other mailings from FCPS other than the report cards for secondary students and progress reports for ES students.

To take advantage of the paperless options, BOTH parents and/or guardians will need to log into ParentVUE, then go to “My Account” and select "Go Paperless."  All parents who live with the student and share the same address must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option to prevent mailing of the printed report cards.
