Chantilly Academy Welcomes Back Students

Chantilly Academy recently welcomed back the first group of students for in-person learning!  The high school firefighting program was excited to be back in the classroom. The program is located at the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Training Academy through a partnership with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.  Returning to in-person instruction has been vital in programs like firefighting as the students focus on hands-on learning and access to tool and equipment. We are excited to begin to offer more in person hands on learning opportunities for students in other programs starting this month!

AFJROTC Hitting Their Stride

It is was a much-anticipated day for over 50 returning and new Air Force JROTC cadets at Chantilly Academy as they recently met for their first in-person drill practice. The drill team consisting of members from four levels of the AFJROTC class had their first opportunity to meet as a group for team drills and formations. The group of students were energized and thrilled to be together.  The event took significant planning to ensure proper social distancing procedures and safe practices. Senior leadership comprised of student cadets from the level three and four classes took on the responsibility of taking temperatures, collecting forms, and organizing instruction. The group looks forward to continuing meeting after school.

A Perfect Partnership...

In effort to provide jobs for the bus drivers employed in Fairfax County Public Schools—the district is partnering with the schools and teachers to match drivers with special assignments to assist during virtual learning.

Here at Chantilly Academy, our Vet Science teacher McGlensey Antonucci is working with her dad, Jose Abiles.  This dynamic partnership is vastly benefiting the program as they are both able to utilize their skills to ensure a successful learning experience for the students.  To see the pair in action, check out the recently covered news story from NBC Washington.

Local Businesses Supporting Student Learning Opportunities

Thank you to a very generous gift from the local Chantilly Lowe's--all Carpentry students have received a tool kit to take home for virtual learning.  To ensure all students can be successful in their learning, the tool kit will consist of a tape measure, a speed square, a carpenter's pencil and a 3'-4' piece of lumber. These tool kits are free of charge and will be given as a gift to each student.  Chantilly Academy is grateful for partners in education like Lowe’s that is invested in students having an opportunity to learn hands-on while remaining in a virtual learning environment.

Innovate assists students in developing new business ideas, taking steps from ideation to creation, or furthering current ventures through the many programs and opportunities offered. Students were engaged and thrilled to be learning more about college life and admissions.
