Franklin MS Weekly Update - October 9

Franklin Families and Students,

Good afternoon. We hope that you had a great week. Thank you everyone who joined us on Monday afternoon during our Parent and Family Office Hour event. If you were unable to attend, I would encourage you reach out to your student's teachers if you would like to connect with them. We are looking forward to another opportunity to engage with our community during our Virtual Parent & Family Coffee Session on October 21 at 4:00 PM. We hope to see you there!

Monday, October 12 is a school planning day and a student holiday. Teachers will participate in a variety of professional development and planning activities and will not be available for office hours. Students are not expected to complete asynchronous assignments on this student holiday and the Check n’ Connect session will not occur. Our class schedule will resume on Tuesday, October 13.

Best wishes for a fun and enjoyable long weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

Student Fee Invoices

We would like to provide you with an update about student fees that may apply to selected FMS students. Some of the elective courses at Franklin include student fees for consumables used as part of the curriculum. Information about these fees can be found in the course syllabus. Parents and guardians will receive an electronic invoice for any student fees through the online MySchoolBucks system. While payments such as credit cards and electronic checks are the preferred method, cash and checks are also accepted. Please contact Tracy Harbold at TLHarbold@fcps.edu if you have any questions about this process.

Restarting Computers

It is recommended that students restart their computer from home once a week. The FCPS Windows license requires that the computers “check in” with our network every few months. If you receive a message saying your license has expired you can connect to the Fairfax wireless network outside any FCPS school building and then restart your computer to reactivate the license.

Virtual Parent Coffees with the FMS Leadership Team

We are committed to communicating key updates, important information, and resources that families can use to support their students. One of the ways we will continue to do this is to offer monthly Virtual Parent Coffees with the FMS Leadership Team. These virtual sessions may feature one or two main agenda items or updates, but they will be primarily dedicated to addressing questions and concerns from our families. The Virtual Parent Coffees will take place on the dates below and links will be sent out prior to the event.

Franklin MS After School Program

Our after-school program is off to a great start. Thank you to all of the students who signed up to participate! We still have openings in plenty of our activities and we are adding more activities as the weeks progress. A few reminders:

  • Spaces in clubs are limited so students are accepted on a first come, first served basis.  We want our clubs to be interactive and engaging, which will not be possible if the groups get too large.
  • Students can find more information about the After-School Program in their grade-level Google Classroom and on the student After-School site.
  • Students should check out the “Clubs by Day” and “Club Descriptions” sheets for club information and schedules.

If you have any questions about the After-School Program, please feel free to contact Mrs. Mollé (cemolle@fcps.edu).

Curriculum resources and Opt-Out information can be found here.

There will be a Virtual Information Session for parents and guardians to meet the teachers and to ask any questions pertaining to the FLE (7-8) curriculum on November 12 from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
