Monday Attendance Clarification

This is a reminder about attendance in Monday morning’s Panther Time Connections block.  We are thrilled that our students are logging into their classes and participating at a high rate.  Attendance is also required for Monday’s Panther Time.  All students should log into their 4th Period Panther Time from 9:00-9:20AM every Monday.  This time is used for teachers to check in with students at the start of each week.  Further, students have time to organize their week (determine goals for the week, note which teachers they may want to check in with, and clarify tasks that they need to submit).

If a student needs to miss any class time (full or partial day), a parent or guardian should report the absence to the RCMS Attendance Office using one of the following methods:

  1. Complete the Carson MS Attendance Form (preferred)
  2. Send an email with full details to CarsonMiddle.Attendance@fcps.edu    :
  3. Call the attendance line at 703-925-3636 being sure to include the spelling of your student’s last name and reason for the absence

Additional Materials Available for Pick-Up

Students who are enrolled in Chinese foreign language class, Math 7, or Math 7 Honors may stop by the main office (Door 1) any Monday-Friday, from 8:00AM to 2:00PM to pick up materials provided by your teachers.  In addition, we continue to offer materials for certain classes as advertised in previous weekly communications.  If in doubt, feel free to contact your teacher or the front office to determine if there are any materials that you still need.

Veterans Day Volunteers

On the morning of Wednesday, November 11th, Rachel Carson Middle School will be holding its 5th annual Veterans Day Event. For the past several years we have been honored to host dozens of our community’s veterans, and each year we look to acknowledge as many new servicemen and women as possible. At our event, veterans from all branches of the armed forces are invited to share their stories and experiences with Carson staff and students as we commemorate their service to our country. If you, a family member, or a friend are interested in attending this year’s event, you can follow this link to access our volunteer form. If you have any questions please contact Billy Darr at wjdarr@fcps.edu.

Thank you for your support!

Absence Reporting Changes

FCPS will begin requiring more detailed and specific information with regards to absences due to illness.  Our online absence reporting form will soon be updated and we ask that when submitting an online absence form for an ill student, you select any symptoms that your child may be experiencing.  If no symptoms are listed for the illness, FCPS staff are required to contact families to ascertain these details.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through these new times.

Other Schools are Sharing....

From Oakton HS:  This year, even though our performances are on hold, our band will march on! In place of our regular door to door donation collections, Oakton Band is holding a Virtual Tag Day, taking donations online and by mail through October. If you have already donated, thank you!

We understand that many families in our community have been deeply changed by current events and cannot support us with the generosity of years’ past. However, if you are able to give, the band needs your support more than ever this year. This year, band students are fundraising toward instruments, equipment, repairs, specialized instructors, student leadership training and band community events.

Go to: OHSTAGDAY.ORG to support the Band Boosters. Or mail a check payable and to the attention of:  BBOHS at 2900 Sutton Road, Vienna 22181
