NEW News

1. Message from Dr. Floyd

Hello Woodson Families!

I hope everyone has been able to be outside to enjoy the Fall – like weather.  I saw the 10 day forecast and it had the 50’s listed!  It's hard to believe it is already Fall and we are getting so close to Winter.  Personally, I would be happy with Fall (or Spring) year round.

Over the last week and a half we have welcomed students back to the building to pick up books and class supplies.  We had several hundred students come through, which leaves well over a thousand students to still get books.

We recognize that some students do not have materials to pick up but we want to make sure everyone who needs books and supplies has a chance; therefore we will hold one more pick up event on October 19th from 7:30 – 9:30AM and 4-6PM.  Families who did not pick up your locker items from the Spring will receive a separate eNotify message on Monday, October 12th with a final pick up opportunity on October 19th.

Many students are finding buddies as resources in their classes.  Over the next week or two, our teachers will continue to help students find a buddy in class so they may ask questions and have a resource.  It is often helpful to ask a friend about where to find an assignment, verifying a due date or determining where an assignment goes once it is completed.   When buddies are able to answer these questions, teachers are freed up to provide feedback on learning, answer content questions and engage in meaningful lesson development.

Thank you to the numerous parents who have reached out to ask for ways to support teachers as well as their own children during this unusual time.  We appreciate your collaborative approach and desire to work together. I invite all of our parents to our next PTSO meeting on Tuesday, October 13 at 6PM, https://meet.google.com/jan-dzyj-pkj.  This is a great way to support the school and see what is going on at Woodson.  FCPS is looking for ways to allow the PTA/PTSO groups to do some more work for kids and staff on campus in the months ahead, so stay tuned!

Please enjoy this three day weekend and stay safe, stay healthy and stay connected,

Dr. Floyd
Principal

2. Student Holiday on Monday, October 12, for School Planning Day

3. Textbooks/Supplies Distribution -

LAST CHANCE

Please know that we will have one last textbook and supplies distribution on Monday, October 19th.  While we have most textbooks, some textbooks have not shipped as of today so please have your child check with their teacher before signing up. Teachers will be sharing with their classes if their class has a hard copy textbook or supplies to pick up.

At this time we will also have those items from lockers that need to be returned to students from the 2019-2020 school year.  If you are not sure whether or not you have locker items a separate email will be sent individually to these students.

Schedule for Pickup

Monday October 19, 7:30-9:30am, 4-6pm

There is no sign up.  Please come when you can during the timeframe listed above. Only students who have been assigned textbooks or supplies from their teachers need to pick up these items.

If you have books to be returned or grabbed the wrong book feel free to return at this time too.

Parking & Building Entry

All parents / guardians / students should arrive at Woodson HS and enter the parking lot via Whitacre Road and proceed to the front of the building by Door 18 (next to auditorium). There will be staff directing you accordingly.

Students only (not parents) must enter the building via Door #18 (next to auditorium). Students will be required to answer a health questionnaire prior to entry, wear a mask and maintain social distance. Once inside the building, students will be directed to follow a specific route collecting their textbooks/supplies.

What to bring

  • Empty backpack
  • Card with name and student ID # clearly printed (helps with checkout process)
  • Mask (students will not be permitted into the building without a mask)

Questions, please email assistant principal Paula DiSalvo at pdisalvo@fcps.edu.
