Fall 2020 Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program

Child Behavior Rating Scale

The Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP)  provides actionable information that will assist teachers, leaders, and parents/guardians in supporting student success in school and to better understand school readiness skills across the state of Virginia. This fall your student will participate in the Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS) component of the Virginia Kindergarten readiness program. The CBRS rating scale is used for both self-regulation and social skills and is completed after 3-4 weeks of observation. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program Parent Notification webpage.

For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Technology Tips for Parents

I.  Connect with ParentVue/ParentView

Have you activated your ParentVue/ParentView account yet?

It is a 2 minute process to set up a username and password that provides parents with access to any Blackboard course available to their child AND access to SIS (student Information System.)

Find more information about how to get set up with your ParentVue account on the FCPS website.

II.  Troubleshooting and Technology Support

The FCPS website has tips for students and parents about using many of the tech tools available. Much of this information can be translated into a language of choice.  In addition, parents can find troubleshooting videos and app directions.  On this webpage there is also a helpdesk number to call and links to submit requests for support.

III.  Cool and Helpful Idea for Tech and other Things

Teaching someone something helps you really learn it.  Ask your child to “teach” you how students submit and un-submit  assignments in Google Classroom.  Ask them things like “How did you get to Google Classroom?”  and “How do you know this assignment is complete?”  In this process your child will not only reinforce these procedures for themselves, but may think about questions they might need in advance of other learning moments.  Hint: steps for submitting can be found in the Gunston Blackboard under the Tech Resources button.

LEAP Into Reading!

Library Equity Access Pass (LEAP)

FCPS PreK-12 students can now check-out books from Fairfax County Public Libraries without the need to register for a physical library card.
