Beginning of Year Forms

At the beginning of a normal school year, students would bring home a weekly folder to you filled with all kinds of important information and forms for you to fill out.  This year, however, we need to collect that important information in a different way so we have set up our website so you can see the important forms that need your attention.

You can click https://washingtonmilles.fcps.edu/node/2391 or go directly to our school's website where you will find all of our required and optional forms with directions on how to return them.  New school year forms include:

Required Forms for all students:

  • Emergency Care and Health Information
  • Digital Resources – Parental Consent
  • Student Rights & Responsibilities – Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement

Optional Forms:

  • FCPS Privacy & Opt Out Forms
  • Family Life Education Opt Out Forms and Information Letters
  • Military – Connected Student Form

Formularios opcionales:

Universal Screener Assessment

The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. Students in grades K-6 will take the iReady reading assessment. Students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady mathematics assessment. More information about the assessment can be found on the

FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage.

This fall, students will take iReady at home instead of at school. Teachers will discuss the assessment with students in advance, including how to log in and what to expect. Resources to help families administer the assessment at home can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener webpage.

For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Positivity Project

P

Each week, students at Washington Mill are introduced to a new character trait on the WMES Morning News Show from the Positivity Project.  Administrators give a brief explanation of the character trait to the school community, and each classroom is assigned a character trait to present to the school community. In the past students have created videos, read books, talked about their personal experiences with the character trait, and illustrated pictures.

For the week of  Oct. 5 - Oct. 9, we will be focusing on

Open Mindedness-Ms. Kenney' s 6th Grade Class

WHAT DOES OPEN-MINDEDNESS MEAN?

Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for
evidence that goes against one’s favored beliefs, plans, or
goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all
evidence fairly, when it is available. They see the other
side and fight the tendency to have a bias for their own
views. And, rather than favoring the socially dominant
views, they give attention to those that are less dominant.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Individuals with the character strength of open-mindedness
are more likely to make accurate decisions – and decisions
that they won’t regret. This is because they think through
all sides of a problem and actively fight “myside bias,”
which happens when people generate evidence, evaluate
evidence, and test hypotheses in a manner biased toward
their own prior opinions and attitudes.

Weekly Student Laptop Reminders and Technology Support

  • Plug the device into an outlet.
  • Turn the device on and let it boot up.
  • Ensure it is connected to the internet at that location.
  • Let the device sit for 30 minutes. No additional log-in's or activities required.
  • Do this once per week to ensure the laptop has the latest updates.

Tech Support
The FCPS Parent Technology Resource page provides tip sheets and support in multiple languages.  These tip sheets provide answers to basic questions about FCPS technologies. Often you can find the answer to your question in these resources. For technical support questions about your online parent accounts, your student’s FCPS laptop, or technology your student uses for online learning, contact the Parent Technology Help Desk (toll free) at 833-921-3277 or enter a support request ticket via the  Parent and Student IT Portal.

The Parent Technology Help Desk will be answered 7 a.m.-11 p.m., seven days a week. Parents who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and an interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS has Parent Information Phone Lines available in eight languages to assist with general questions about FCPS.)
