Principal's Welcome Message - 10/3/20

Stone MS

Good Afternoon Stone Students and Families--

It has been an amazing first week as the acting principal at Stone MS. I want to thank Dr. Mitchell and the rest of the administrative team and staff for the very warm welcome and support during this transition. We have a wonderful Stone team who are working tirelessly to create meaningful learning experiences for our students.

I have enjoyed getting into several classrooms this week to witness dynamic, quality instruction. I have been incredibly impressed with our teachers, who consistently create and deliver lessons to support the Portrait of a Graduate (POG)  tenets of communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking, ethical and global citizens and goal-directed and resilient individuals. I am equally excited with how our students are working very hard to participate, stay engaged and make the most of the virtual learning experience.

As we continue to stress the value and importance of incorporating POG skills, I would like to highlight students I observe displaying POG skills while in their classes. Each weekly newsletter will feature “Portrait of our Panthers,” where students will receive an email or phone call from me and a little something in the mail to showcase their engagement and effort. This week’s students were selected because they did an excellent job asking questions and interacting with their teachers and classmates.

Congratulations to the Portrait of our Panthers Student Winners for the week of 9/28: Ella Ammons, Zoe Brown, Tyler Dahm, Charles Ewell, Justin Kehler, Chase Marvin, Helen Molina Ortiz, Sydney Moore, Sophia Reed and Tucker Whitacre. Keep up the great work, Panther students. I look forward to “seeing” you in classes this week.

Finally, as we reach the halfway point of the first quarter, I invite you to share your thoughts and feedback in our first quarter parent virtual learning survey.  Our faculty and students will receive similar surveys this week as we continue to learn and grow from our distance learning successes and challenges.

I look forward to getting to know you and your children in the coming weeks. Enjoy the beautiful Fall weather this weekend.

Meredith Norris, Acting Principal

Reminder about  required forms

  • Last call! We still need parents to complete the Parent Digital Consent form allowing your students to use certain online digital tools in class. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used.

At Stone Middle, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://stonems.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

SIS Weekly Progress Reports to Parents Set to Start Monday, October 5, 2020

Due to the delayed school opening and virtual start, SIS weekly progress reports to parents are now set to begin on Monday, October 5, 2020.  Please note this is a change from the original start date of September 21, 2020; therefore, middle and high schools may want to include the following notification and instructions for parents in their newsletters:

If you have registered for SIS ParentVUE and have a primary email address recorded in ParentVUE, you can receive your student’s Weekly Progress Report via email.  For the 2020-21 school year, Weekly Progress Reports are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 5, 2020.  This report provides a summary of your student’s grades for the current quarter.  To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE account and verify that you have a primary email address within the system.  It is listed under the “My Account” tab.

If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports, and click on “Update account.”  Once your email is confirmed, return to the “My Account” tab to activate and select your preferences for receiving these reports.  Emails will be sent according to your selected preferences.  Weekly Progress Reports for all of your middle and high school students will be included in one email.  For additional help, refer to the quick reference guide for FCPS parents/guardians.

Parents can also access student grades through ParentVUE via the Grade Book tab.
