Congratulations!

Congratulations to the West Potomac Academy Music and Computer Technology Program.  Mr. Phillip Carter and his music and computer tech program was awarded a $1,000.00 grant from the Washington D.C. Grammy Association.

 


PTSA UPDATES

PTSA Membership – PLEASE JOIN - Thank you to the more than 320 families/teachers/students who have joined to date this year.  Not yet a member? Please become one today!  Your membership dues are used to directly benefit our school community. The PTSA serves as the Academic Booster Club at WPHS, supports academic success and enrichment, offers education grants to support our teachers, and offers affordable ACT/SAT Test Prep with Applerouth. You can join online at https://westpotomacptsa.memberhub.store

 

PTSA Membership Meeting - Join us Monday, October 5th, 6:30 – 8:00pm, via Zoom and Facebook Live for our October virtual PTSA membership meeting. Ever wondered why West Potomac sits behind all those houses?  West Potomac’s own Emily Millians will treat us to information on the important history of the Quander Family and the West Potomac HS location.  And, as always, our Admin Team will be there to provide updates and answer any questions. A Zoom link will be sent out to all current PTSA members on Monday.  The meeting will also be shown live on the West Potomac PTSA’s Facebook page.

 

Craving Chick-Fil-A fundraisers - We are ready to serve.  At this time we are unable to use WPHS school grounds to hold this popular fundraiser - please email Laura Colligan at laurawtwins@yahoo.com if you have a private community lot we could use to set up a pop-up Chick-Fil-A sale.  Help the PTSA earn funds while we provide a tasty dinner option for our WP families and community. CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS:  Please click on the flyer attached for an easy way to make a BIG difference once schools reopen in person!  Thank you for your help in keeping our students, teachers and staff well stocked with supplies to keep them all safe.  Any shipments of supplies to the school MUST be addressed to West Potomac High School as recipient, ATTN: PPE supplies.  Questions? National Honor Society (NHS)

PSAT Day For Juniors – Intent to participate deadline – October 9th.

11th Grade Parents/Guardians, on Thursday, October 29, WP Juniors will have the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT.  FCPS will cover the test cost for any 11th grade student.  To be eligible – students need to register by completing the Intent to Participate form by Friday, October 9.  Intent to Participate form can be found in the Class of 2022 Google classroom (must be accessed using into their fcpsschools.net Google accounts).

 

West Potomac Masks for Sale -- only 17 left!

Show your Wolverine pride and support West Potomac's Dance Team by purchasing one or more washable face masks ($10 each) for yourself or to donate to WP students. Email Gina Almeida at WPDanceTeam2020@gmail.com before they are all gone!  Pay through Venmo or PayPal, cash or a check.

WPHS Library Curbside Side Pick-up

The library continues with its Curbside Pick-up for books. Students place a hold in Destiny (online catalog), and will receive a confirmation email on Mondays that the book is ready.  Pick-up:  Mondays between 12:30-3:00 PM.  Additional details posted on the Library Google Classroom.  As an additional resource- students may also return books from last school year. College Admissions in the Time of Social Distancing

The PTSA is proud to bring you a virtual seminar via Zoom with Dr. Jed Applerouth on Tuesday, October 27th at 7 PM. As we know, applying to college is stressful under normal circumstances and knowing how the global pandemic has changed the process is vital. Join us to learn all you need to know to navigate the college admissions process in these changing times. NEW SELF-DIRECTED CLASSES OFFERED THIS YEAR ($125.00) -The test prep program is offering self-directed online test prep created by Applerouth. This is an excellent course that covers all the content offered through the usual group class as well as tips and strategies for the official tests. Mock test results provide a solid study guide. Applerouth tutors are available to assist self-directed students with any questions during the course. One mock test is included in the self-directed class. Class licenses expire 7/31/21. Register at PTSA's MemberHub Store.

PSAT/NMSQT FREE ONLINE PREP OFFERED BY APPLEROUTH 9/26/20 - 10/11/20 - You’re invited to Applerouth’s PSAT Prep Rally! Students can join online strategy sessions to prep and then take a full-length proctored practice PSAT/NMSQT - for free.
