Holiday Help

The days are cooler and fall is definitely in the air. That means the holidays are just around the corner. Holidays are wonderful, but they can be stressful too!

If your family is in need of any assistance with Thanksgiving or the December holidays, please contact our social work intern, Sabrina Kamberis, by October 16th at skamberis@fcps.edu. We have community partners who are ready to help our Lees Corner families!

Walking for Wellness

Students and families are being encouraged to take part in weekly Walking Wednesdays during the 20-21 school year to help promote mental and physical health. Despite the virtual start to the school year, the Safe Routes to School office will be promoting Walking Wednesdays throughout the year, with a different theme each month.

October’s Walking Wednesday will take place on October 7, which is also Walk to School Day. Participants are encouraged to walk in their neighborhoods; families, schools, and neighborhoods can register their participation online for Walk to School Day.

Walking Wednesdays will provide a boost of energy for students and an opportunity for neighbors to greet each other and reconnect at a safe social distance along with physical benefits.

Walking Wednesdays are a county-wide initiative in partnership with the Fairfax County Park Authority’s Move Your Way and Healthy Strides campaigns. Inova Fairfax and the Partnership for a Healthier Fairfax also support the campaign.

After School Activities

Families- stay tuned next week for more information about upcoming virtual after school classes offered exclusively to Lees Corner students. We will be bringing back our popular Chess Club as well as offering Kitchen STEAM, Art (includes your own kit delivered straight to your home) and a new, fun experience for those who enjoy the game Roblox!

Registration will open next Wednesday, October 7th and classes will begin the week of October 19th!

More information will be announced at Tuesday's PTA meeting (which will be recorded) and published to the PTA website and school Facebook page. We are so excited to kick off our Fall after school virtual class semester!

Tech Tips

tt

To ensure your child's computer is school-ready, please share these 3 tips:

  • properly shutdown your laptop EVERY NIGHT. Please do not push the power button to shut it down.
  • restart your laptop once a week, every week to allow any updates to download and install.
  • ALWAYS keep your laptop plugged in to an electrical outlet when you shut it down or restart it.  This will help to prevent it from losing power in the middle of an update.

When tech troubles pop up, we are here to help you!

Many self-help resources can be found in the Technology Support Section of the Virtual Learning Page of our Lees Corner Website.  Please review these resources to attempt to resolve technology issues that you may encounter.  If these do not help to solve your need, please use one of the following options to best help us manage and monitor technology support requests.

  1. Call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).  This will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.  Please specify if you need an interpreter when you call.  FCPS also has Parent Information Phone Lines available in eight languages to assist with general questions about FCPS.
  1. Submit a Parent or Student IT Support Request.  Someone from FCPS will contact you to help resolve your technology support need.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is taken daily during Distance Learning. If your child is going to miss part of the school day due to appointments or trips, please let your child’s teacher and the school know so we are aware of which lessons your child will miss. Notifying us allows us to better meet your child’s needs and support ongoing learning.

You may notify us by emailing your child's teacher, calling the LCES attendance line at 703-227-3535 and leaving a message, or by emailing us at

LeesCornerES.Attendance@fcps.edu. Phone and email messages are checked daily.

Volunteer! Make a difference and have fun at the same time. Our events are open to everyone, and we want everyone to have fun, especially our volunteers. Choose an activity that you enjoy and bring a friend or plan on making one! Check out the various committees you can support http://leescornerpta.net/home/committees/

We remain committed to continuing to put the support of our students, staff, and community as the number one priority throughout this unique school year. As things continue to develop and change, the use of our resources might look different in the coming year. The PTA board is working closely with the LCES administration to plan for the 2020-21 school year and here are some of the events we are planning:

  • Community events, such as mobile food trucks for dining days, Spirit Gear sales, and a virtual Book Fair, to help keep our community stay connected.
  • Virtual field trips and cultural arts assemblies during the school year.
  • Appreciation events for Teachers, Counselors, and School Staff.
  • A variety of virtual After School Programs. We are looking forward to another great year at Lees Corner, working with our parents, teachers, and students.
  • By joining the PTA, you help us meet our school’s needs outside the scope of their budget.  When you go a step further and volunteer to help with events—or join our board— you set a fine example for our students to follow, and greatly encourage our teachers and staff.

We are looking forward to another great year at Lees Corner, working with our parents, teachers, and students.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Office of Food and Nutrition Services is offering healthy breakfast and lunches at locations throughout Fairfax County this school year under the USDA National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program.

FCPS' goal is to provide every student in FCPS daily access to a healthy breakfast and lunch during this pandemic.

Breakfasts and lunches are prepared fresh daily with high quality ingredients by a dedicated team of trained food service professionals. Our grab and go meals are tasty, well-balanced, and contain protein, whole grains, fruits and/or vegetables, and low-fat or fat-free milk. The meals are planned by registered dietitian nutritionists.

Breakfast and lunch will be available to pick up at the same time.

The FCPS sites, locations, bus routes, and curbside service are available Monday-Friday only.

New for this fall: meals for Saturdays and Sundays will be distributed at all sites and on bus routes every Friday.

Through December 31, 2020 the grab and go meals will be provided at no cost for students at several sites throughout the county. FCPS students are welcome to come to any of the sites to pick up a meal during these time periods.

All FCPS students (regardless of age),as well as other county children, under the age of 18,  are eligible for FREE grab and go breakfast and lunch.

Adults picking up meals for children should let staff know how many children's meals they need. Adults may pay $2 for the meals as well.

As a reminder, it is important to follow social distancing guidelines. Be sure to stand a minimum of 6 feet apart from others and practice regular hand washing, including prior to leaving a residence to pick-up meals, upon returning home, and before consuming food.

Get more information about food distribution here .
