Important Dates
Attendance Matters
Attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes. Please visit the Falls Church High School website attendance page for updated policies and procedures.
The top 5 Reasons students miss school are:
- Their work is not completed, or they have anxiety about their work load.
- They are not interested in school or bored by their classes or teachers.
- There are things going on with family at home or the family is not supportive of school.
- The student has physical health issues that prevent them from coming to school.
- The student has some mental health issues getting in the way (#1 issue: anxiety).
It’s important to communicate these and other needs to our Dean, SOSA, administrators, counselors, & clinicians.
Student Holiday - Monday, October 12th
A reminder that next Monday, October 12th is a student holiday in celebration of Indigenous People’s Day. I have asked our faculty to use it as a mental health day and hope the students will take the opportunity for a break as well.
Teachers will not be available for office hours and students are not expected to complete asynchronous assignments. Classes and operations will resume on Tuesday, October 13th.

PSAT Opportunity for 11th graders
The PSAT/NMSQT deadline to register by Friday, October 9th
On Thursday, October 29, Falls Church High School eleventh graders will have the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT. FCPS will cover the cost for any eleventh grade student to take this test.
To help the school prepare for testing, families are asked to complete the form below by Friday, October 9. This form asks about participation in the test, the need for bus transportation, and interest in free breakfast or lunch on the day of the test.
Falls Church HS: PSAT/NMSQT Intent to Participate Form*
(https://forms.gle/4ekdgeWtr56Ve6Z1A)
*Students must be signed in to their FCPS gmail account (@fcpsschools.net)
A translated version of the form content may be found on the PSAT/NMSQT Intent webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/42099). Due to health and safety protocols, FCPS sites cannot accept walk-ins on the day of the exam.
General information about the PSAT/NMSQT test format is available on the College Board webpage. Thursday, October 29 has been designated for asynchronous learning in FCPS high schools, so students who choose to take the PSAT/NMSQT will not miss synchronous learning time with their teachers.
We will share more details about test day schedules and bus transportation in the coming weeks. FCPS health and safety protocols for PSAT/NMSQT administration are available online.
If you have questions about the PSAT/NMSQT administration at Falls Church High School, please contact Mariam Suqi (MASuqi@fcps.edu) or your child’s counselor for information about the test and its benefits.
Testing accommodations must be approved through the College Board, for specific questions, contact Shakita Fox (SMFox@fcps.edu).
For questions about health and safety protocols, contact Jessica Grenfell (Jmgrenfell@fcps.edu)
NHS Tutoring
NHS will be offering extra help “in the bubble”!
Tutoring will be structured as drop in small group support offered on Mondays from 1-3 in the afternoon and on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:15. To request access to the NHS tutoring bubble, students need to fill out a Google form with their name, student id number, and which subject(s) they would like help with so we can try to have appropriate numbers of tutors. Please share this opportunity with your students.
This is not one-on-one tutoring, but the NHS students will be working in breakout groups of students on the same content.
Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R)
Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement
Parents and guardians, please review the Student Rights and Responsibilities and related resources at www.fcps.edu/srr. After reviewing the information, please help us by filling out the SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form. The form must be filled out one time per student.
Parent Consent for Select Digital Resources
At FCHS, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here:
Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools.
We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission.
Thank you for your attention to this important component of distance learning and support of our teachers!
