Virtual Responsive Classroom

Building Community At Forestdale

Just like in the brick and mortar setting, Falcons begin each day in a Morning Meeting and end each day in a Closing Circle.  It’s an amazing time to build relationships, enhance classroom community, incorporate social emotional learning, reflect, and grow!

Welcome to Virtual Thursday Folders

To support the home-school connection during distance learning, the Falcon Press, this family newsletter, will go home via News You Choose each week rather than each month.  Please encourage friends and neighbors to make sure they are signed up to receive this newsletter!  Email preferences can be updated here.

Back to School Night

Thank you for coming to Back-to-School Night!

Thank you, families, for joining us for our virtual Back-to-School Night (BTSN) on Tuesday!  Our teachers and staff were so happy to connect with you again. Weren’t able to join us?  Teachers have been/will be sending out recordings of their presentations. Thank you, families, for your continued partnership!

Digital SR&R Signature Needed for All Students

All FCPS parents and guardians must digitally acknowledge receipt of the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R).  Please review the SR&R and related resources here.  After reviewing the information, fill out the SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form using this link

The form must be filled out one time for each student.   This form is only fillable from your student’s Google Account using their (Student ID)@fcpsschools.net log in.

Thank you to those families who have already done so!

Parental Consent Needed for Select Digital Resources

At Forestdale Elementary, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of resources that require parental consent here

If you have not already completed a consent form, please complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission.

Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Upcoming Assessments: Learning About your Child

iReady Assessment

The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. Students in grades K-6 will take the iReady reading assessment. Students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady mathematics assessment. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage.

This fall, students will take iReady at home instead of at school. Teachers will discuss the assessment with students in advance, including how to log in and what to expect. Resources to help families administer the assessment at home can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener webpage.

Additional Formative Assessments

Over the next two weeks our students will be taking formative assessments to help our teachers learn about individual strengths and needs and to plan for instruction. There is no required preparation for these assessments and we ask that students do not get parental help. These assessments will be taken at home during the Specialized Instruction block,  Monday through Friday, over the next few weeks.

For questions, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or Ms. Rashida Green, assistant principal and School Testing Coordinator.

Internet Assistance

FCPS and Cox Communications are teaming up to help families ensure that they have internet access. The Cox Connect2Compete program requires that families meet the following criteria:

  • Receive or are eligible to receive county or state financial assistance (i.e. Free and Reduced Meals, Public Housing, TANF, etc.)
  • The family has legal rights to install utilities at the residence (lease holder or homeowner.)
  • Have not had Cox in the past 90 days that is no longer installed (if you currently have Cox, then you may still be eligible for the assistance program.

If your home is in Cox boundaries (not all of Forestdale families have Cox in their neighborhoods) and you are interested in more information, please contact the Forestdale ES Clinical Team at ForestdaleClinicalTeam@fcps.edu.

***Unfortunately, Metropolitan Center Drive is not within the Cox service area and cannot participate in this program.
