Computer Issue:
Many students are logging into Blackboard Collaborate before Snagit has loaded on the computer. As a result, video cameras are not working when using Blackboard Collaborate. Please follow the steps below each day to ensure your child is able to get the most out of their online classes
1. Students, please leave your machines on, and restart at the end of the day.
2. When you login, please wait until the screen has loaded completely….yes this may take a minute or more.
3. When you see that Snagit has loaded (see below), THEN try to start class, etc.
Developing and supporting EXPECTATIONS in the virtual environment.
Expectations are guidelines developed for children to understand the types of behaviors expected of them throughout the school day. Expectations that are clear, concise, and consistent can help children to feel more confident, engaged, and connected to the learning environment.
In the virtual environment parents can develop and support the teaching of expectations. Start by selecting 1-2 expectations as the goal for the day or week depending on the needs of your child. Initiate a discussion, model, and practice with your child what that behavior should look and sound like. Incorporate visuals (such as the sample and blank templates) or individualized pictures (child made drawings or photos of the child doing the appropriate expectation). The visuals should be posted within the instructional area to serve as reminders of those expectations. Practice and review the selected expectations each day prior to virtual instruction. This can be done through a discussion with the visuals asking: “What is your goal for today? What should your behavior look and sound like?” You may also want to use the Distance Learning Social Story provided below.
Remember it is important to start small and focus on only 1 or 2 expectations to ensure success. As your child demonstrates the appropriate expectations, more can be added. Don’t forget to praise your child when they demonstrate the appropriate expectations!
