News You Need to Know

Communication with Families

Dear Families,

So that you can know what to expect in terms of communication, we typically send out an Edison email/newsletter on Friday afternoons.  The newsletter will include what you need to know for the following week, announcements, events, and congratulations—celebrating our students and staff.  We all receive a lot of emails, so our intent is to consolidate the information into one weekly message.  Due to the pandemic and the need to get information out in a timely manner as directed by FCPS leadership, we have sent out messages several times in the week.  Whenever possible we will return to our weekly Friday communication.

Welcome to our new Academy Administrator

We are happy to announce that Monica Bentley has been named Edison Academy Administrator. We look forward to her joining us on October 12, 2020. She will supervise the Academy, CTE, Global STEM, JROTC and Fine and Performing Arts.

Monica shared the following with us:

MB

It is my pleasure to join the Edison Team as your Edison Academy Administrator!   My name is Monica Bentley, and this is my fourth year in an educational leadership role and my twenty-sixth year in education. Prior to becoming the Academy Administrator, my experience included serving as Assistant Principal at Annandale High School supervising the science, performing arts, and fine art departments, Dean of Students, Business and Information Technology teacher, Business Cooperative Internship Coordinator, Department Chair, Collaborative Team leader, FBLA Advisor, National Business Honor Society Advisor, Online Campus teacher, and School Probation counselor.  I have supported the AVID program, served as the chairperson for the SACS Accreditation process, and was the co-lead administrator for the School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP).

I am always a teacher at heart.  I taught for twenty years in Manassas City and Fairfax County schools. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from James Madison University, a Master of Education from Marymount University, and an Endorsement in Administration and Supervision where I studied Educational Leadership at University of Virginia’s Falls Church campus.  My journey of pursuing lifelong learning is an example to students and staff that we never stop learning – it’s an essential part of life.

I am married to Tony Bentley, Wakefield High School’s varsity basketball coach and blessed to be the proud mother to our five girls - Brooke (19) and Maya (16) and my three stepdaughters Tiara (32), Ashley (29), and Brittany (27).  I have the same high expectations for my daughters as I do for our Edison students because when they are at school, they become our children.  I support and nurture students like they are my own and want to see them succeed in their educational and career aspirations while developing into kind, responsible and productive adults.

I look forward to working with and getting to know all of you. It is my privilege to join and help lead the many talented teachers and students at Edison High School. Go Eagles!
