A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Rocky Run Families and Students,

Happy weekend families!  I hope that you have something fun planned to relax and decompress with those you love. The Rocky Run Staff is so proud of our students. Attendance in classes has been outstanding and we can tell that students are working hard to maintain engagement and collaborate with their teachers. It is always a pleasure to pop into classes and hear the great conversations happening in large rooms and breakout groups.

Please be sure to review important events coming up soon at Rocky Run and updates about our schoolwide Positivity Project activities in this week's updates.

Weekly Learning Calendars:

An overview of the week in each course will be posted Mondays on the Rocky Run website and the Ramsville student website. Families must be logged into the student’s FCPS gmail account to view calendars. These Weekly Learning Calendars are a resource for families and students to see what students will learn in class each week and what assignments they will have.

I welcome your feedback, suggestions and questions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Amy Goodloe, Principal

Beginning of School Year Forms

As we prepare to (virtually) open schools this fall, we ask that all parents and/or guardians update the annual mandatory school forms. Updates to the following forms are all necessary for your students to begin school every year. This information can also be found on our website.

Form

Information

Emergency Care Form

Form required for all students. Completed via weCare.

Health Form

Only for students with medical concerns. Email completed form to Cindy Coreas or AJ Ries

Computer Opt Out Form

Only for students who are not taking a school computer.

Software Parental Consent Form*

FCPS will be collecting electronic submissions. Please complete as soon as possible.

If you currently do not have a SIS parent account, please contact Cindy Coreas Chavez at cacoreaschav@fcps.edu or AJ Ries ajries@fcps.edu

*Parent Digital Tool Permission Application

In an ongoing effort to protect student data, FCPS is required to secure parental permission for student use of software/applications for which FCPS does not have a confidentiality agreement.  An online process has been developed to collect this information digitally and provide school-based reporting.  This process has been designed to meet the legal requirements for authenticating parent identities under FERPA.

After-School Program

Our after-school program is off to a great start this week.  Thank you to all of the students who signed up to participate!  We still have openings in plenty of our activities and we are adding more activities as the weeks progress.  A few reminders:

  • Spaces in clubs are limited so students are accepted on a first come, first served basis.  We want our clubs to be interactive and engaging, which will not be possible if the groups get too large.
  • All After-School Program information is posted on the student Ramsville site.
  • Students should check out the “Clubs by Day” and “Club Descriptions” sheets for club information and schedules.
  • There is an enrollment link for each club on the “Club Descriptions” sheet.  If a club is already full, there will be a note about that in the enrollment box. We will be monitoring club attendance to see if we can add more spaces or new sections.
  • After enrolling, the students will receive a message in the google form to either join the club’s Google Classroom or if the sponsor will be following up with a meeting link.
  • Students should email Mrs. Campbell (SLCampbell@fcps.edu) if they are no longer interested in participating in clubs in which they are enrolled.  This will allow us to open up spots to other students.
  • Interested in starting a new club?  Fill out the club proposal form on Ramsville!

Tech Support for Parents and Students

Tips for Online Learning Success:

A webpage has been published to support students with distance learning. The Tips for Online Learning Success page has suggestions for students; technology tips for families; troubleshooting guides; and links to the parent and student tech support sites.

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.
