Important Message from Principal, Dr. Melaney Mackin:
September 24, 2020
Dear Silverbrook Parents:
It is with mixed emotions that I share the news with you that I have accepted a principal position in Arlington Public Schools. Although I am excited at the new opportunity and challenge of working and leading a new school, it makes me sad to say good-bye and leave Silverbrook. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to lead and work in such a wonderful and caring community. I have spent the past 12 years at Silverbrook Elementary. During that time we have gone through many changes. When I arrived in the summer of 2008, Laurel Hill Elementary had not yet opened and the student enrollment at Silverbrook was approximately 1275. Overall it has been a great experience for me and I want to thank you and tell you how much I have appreciated your support and collaboration with the staff, to make Silverbrook Elementary a great place to be for all, especially for our students.
My last day at Silverbrook Elementary will be on Friday, October 30, 2020. The Region 4 Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Jay Pearson, will be in touch with you in the coming days to share the process for the selection of the next principal.
Once again, thank you for the memories and most of all for the opportunity to serve this community and to welcome your children to school each day. I am proud of all that we have accomplished as a school community. I also want to assure you that during the month of October I will work to be sure that all is in order to support a smooth transition. I look forward to coming back to visit and see a shiny new building filled with the smiling faces of Silverbrook students.
Sincerely,
Melaney J. Mackin, Ed. D.
