While most school work is online, there are some assignments and resources that are "paper & pencil" and, at many grade levels, we have good old fashioned books to distribute to students. These bundles are ready for pick up from school beginning Tuesday. For your convenience, we'll also be delivering bundles via school bus on Wednesday according to this schedule:

If the bus stop does not work for you, you may pick up your child's bundle at school between 8:30-4:00 between Tuesday-Friday next week. We can also mail it to you at your request (call 703-713-3000).
It's critical that all parents complete the require beginning of the year forms. Go to https://coateses.fcps.edu/node/4331 to complete them ASAP.
The PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) must elect new officers this fall. There are two open positions on the board, and nominations are open now for Vice President & Secretary. Nominations, including self-nominations, should be sent to our nominations committee in the next two weeks.
Nominations Committee: Mrs. Jess Hamm, 6th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Rosemary Meehan, librarian, & Mr. Dennis Racke, 5th Grade Teacher.
If you have questions about the positions or PTA in general, please contact our president, Mrs. Tisha Bowman (parent of a 6th grader), or treasurer, Mrs. Malini Madras (parent of a 2nd & 6th grader).
PTA is also setting up a space on the Coates website this week that will accept membership forms and payment. PTA exists to support the school in bringing our families together, backing our teachers and parents, and sometimes raising money for Coates that goes directly to our kids' school needs. We hope you'll join!
This past week, our spectacular reading specialist, Mrs. Puckett, provided parents with great insights on how to support reading routines at home. In case you missed it, we have all of her content on the Coates website. There are 3 short, video modules plus a one-page booklet that will show you exactly what appropriate books at each grade level look like and how to best support and ask questions about your child's reading so that s/he increases reading levels.
