We invite all parents and children who are interested in learning more about Odyssey of the Mind to attend this interest meeting!
Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Students work in teams applying their creativity to solve problems ranging from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competitions on the local, state, and world level.
Due to the pandemic, the Odyssey of the Mind is providing teams the option to register for in-person or virtual competition. With virtual school this year, this is a great opportunity for the kids to learn and have social interaction with their team members who are limited to seven participants.
Please visit https://www.odysseyofthemind.com/index.html for more information.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about it!
If you have any questions, please contact Deepa Seonie at academic.clubs.fespta@ gmail.com.

Calling kids who are interested in Science and Technology!
Calling Parents of 3rd through 6th graders who wish to further their children’s interest in STEM!
Science Olympiad inspires passion and improves your understanding in science, technology, engineering & mathematics (STEM) through collaboration and teamwork, hands-on experiences, variety and creativity in topics and skills, and fun and rewarding tournaments.
Science Olympiad (https://www.soinc.org/) is a school-based program for students from third grade through their senior year in high school. The Virginia chapter (https://virginiaso.org) engages over 3000 students each year, beginning in 3rd grade and extending through 12th. Division A is the elementary division, Division B is the middle school division and Division C is the high school division. Teams progress through Regional tournaments to States to the National tournament.
Due to the pandemic this program will be all virtual but will still be a great opportunity for the kids to learn about Science and Technology. In addition, participating in elementary school is a good start to understanding the program. It would pave the path for future participation in SO in middle and high school, where student selection into school teams can be very competitive.
Due to Back to School Night at Cooper Middle School, the interest meeting is being rescheduled to Monday, September 28th, 2020 at 7:00pm
