Our HWES Physical Education Team Introduces Walking Wednesdays
Students and families are being encouraged to take part in weekly Walking Wednesdays during the 2020-21 school year, to help promote mental and physical health. Despite the virtual start to the school year, the Safe Routes to School office will be promoting Walking Wednesdays throughout the year, with a different theme each month.
October’s Walking Wednesday will take place on October 7th, which is also Walk to School Day. Participants are encouraged to walk in their neighborhoods; families, schools, and neighborhoods can register their participation online for Walk to School Day.
Walking Wednesdays will provide a boost of energy for students and an opportunity for neighbors to greet each other and reconnect, at a safe social distance, along with physical benefits.
Walking Wednesdays are a county-wide initiative in partnership with the Fairfax County Park Authority’s Move Your Way and Healthy Strides campaigns. Inova Fairfax and the Partnership for a Healthier Fairfax also support the campaign.
FCPS plans to create a Walking Wednesdays Facebook page where parents and students can post photos of their Wednesday walks.
For more information, please contact our Physical Education teachers, Mr. Silva (bosilva@fcps.edu) or Ms. Williams (clwilliams1@fcps.edu).

Stuff the Bus - Donations Being Collected For Food Drive
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a dramatic rise in the demand for food from area nonprofits.
On Saturday, September 12th and Saturday, September 26th, Fastran buses will be parked at 21 locations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect food donations for their Stuff the Bus food drive. See the list of donation sites and other information on Fairfax County's website.
Buses will be located in less-frequented lots throughout the county, including many Board of Supervisors’ offices and the Fairfax County Government Center, to allow donors to comply with social distancing recommendations.
