The BMP Team Can Do Virtually Anything

A Message from the Principal

Thank you for the ongoing partnership in your students' learning during the virtual learning time!  The Bren Mar Park staff have been working hard to reach out via email or phone, provide technical support, and provide ideas and structures that you might use at home with your child.  As new and the latest information is made available to us, we continue to do our best to keep you updated.  In the meantime, we will continue to connect you with resources and other supports.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Williams

Monday Schedules

Mondays is a part of the school week.  For the next few weeks, every child is assigned a small group time with their general education teacher to build relationships with peers and get support with technology.  Independent work is also assigned  and should be completed that day.  If your child is unable to participate during the school day, we ask that parents/guardians report the absence or the commitment to completing the work asynchronously to the school office at 703-914-7272.  You are welcome to visit the FCPS website at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/schedules-and-attendance to learn more.

Starting in early October, not every child may be assigned a small group intervention or enrichment small group, however independent work will continue to be assigned along with a check-in for attendance.  Details will come through your child's classroom teacher.

Grab N Go Breakfast & Lunch

Grab N Go Breakfast & Lunch continues to available at Bren Mar Park for ALL families, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Food is free for children under age 18 and $2 for adults.

Reminders: Health Screenings

Any in-person visits to the school building are by appointment only. This includes for technology help or support.  Please be aware that, by FCPS guidelines, visitors to the building will be required to complete a Covid-19 Health Screening Questionnaire each time before they enter the building.  We do ask that, for the safety of others and our staff, that you reschedule any in-person visits to the building should you exhibit any symptoms of Covid-19.

Ways to Help Your Child at Home

Troubleshooting the camera on your student laptop

FCPS has created some student friendly 'how to' videos for distance learning.  We will share this series of videos here.  Our next video goes over ways to troubleshoot problems with the camera on your student laptop.   Please take a moment to watch this video with your Mustang.

4th/5th Grade Band/Strings - More information

Bren Mar Park is offering band/strings to all 5th grade students, and strings to 4th grade students.  Students who choose to take band/strings will have grades for both general music and band or strings on their progress report. General music teachers will enter general music grades and the instrumental teachers will enter band and/or strings grades.  Band/string instruction will take place one day each week during the counseling block.

If you'd like more information about band/strings or to sign your student up please contact Mr. Johnson, strings teacher (bmjohnson1@fcps.edu) or Mrs. Hinkle, band teacher (dfhinkle@fcps.edu).

Specialist Spotlights

Advanced Academics

This quarter our critical and creative thinking lessons will focus on Visualization.  This skill focuses on consciously forming a mental image of something that is not actually present.  Students use sensory information to stimulate their imagination.  This skill can be used to help students set goals by allowing them to visualize a plan to achieve their goals.  Visualization can also be used in reading to help deepen comprehension and empathy.

At Home Connection: Have students set a goal and create a poster about it.  Visualize the elements that they need to reach their goal.  What steps will they take to get to their goal?  Include these steps on the poster.  After completing the poster, snap a picture and tag @Mrs_TropeAART, #BMPaap or share it with my at cjtrope@fcps.edu.  I can’t wait to see your creations!

Advanced Academic Parent Information Night – There will be an Advanced Academic information session on Tuesday, September 29th 5:30-6:30.  A link will be shared in an email directly to our families.
