A Place to Stand Fairfax City School Support

stand

Hello and Good Morning!

I am pleased to share information on how A Place to Stand will support our school community this fall.  APTS will continue to provide a critical community service this fall of delivering food to students and their families, which eliminates possible obstacles to food access. Feel free to share this information with your individual schools, both internally and externally, on how food insecure students are being supported while our school based food programs are closed. We are happy to be partnering with your social workers to make all this happen, they are an amazing group of hard working individuals.

Here’s what’s happened:  On March 20, April 3, May 1, and June 5, A Place to Stand, with the support of volunteers and school staff, provided supplemental food assistance to students and their families. In total, across 4 deliveries, 131 drivers delivered 1,042 grocery bags, 1,258 weekend bags, 265 snack bags, 265 gift cards to the homes of 425 students equaling 26,700 pounds of food, a donation valued over $40,290.

Here’s what’s happening: Since our school year is starting virtually, A Place to Stand will continue to provide an essential support service by delivering food to families in the community.  You’ll find the frequency of our support has increased based on the needs identified by our school social workers. This is a large undertaking but we are confident our community will continue to support one another during this challenging time.

A Place to Stand will deliver grocery bags to students and their families in our City school community on a biweekly basis beginning Monday, September 14.  This will supplement the food provided by FCPS.  We are looking for donations of food and funds to support our efforts. We also have a number of volunteer opportunities to help our food delivery program.
