1. Message from Dr. Floyd

Good afternoon Woodson Families:

As we embark on the Fall season, I am reminded of why I love living in this area. You can go from the beach to the mountains in just a few hours and it is often a 30 degree difference in the two areas. The air is becoming more crisp and my dog is chasing the leaves. With the change in seasons, I can only hope it will bring a renewed hope to be rid of COVID and to safely return to school.

Yesterday I sent an eNotify message to our families to address the abhorrent behavior of some students during Club interest meetings. To protect against this, club sponsors will send individual links for meetings or utilize a Google classroom setting. The downside to this is students cannot just come to a club at any time. I highly suggest parents encourage their kids to contact the sponsor of a club to gain a link if they are interested in trying out a club. There is no commitment to coming to a meeting and checking it out. This won’t allow for the spontaneity that comes with clubs and will require pre-planning but we must do it to ensure the safety of all our students and staff.

Please see the information below on textbook and material pick up over the next two weeks. If you still have books, please drop them off at Door 1 during business hours. Also, please see the information regarding grab and go meals provided by FCPS.

Have a wonderful weekend, stay safe, stay well and stay healthy, Cavs!

Dr. Floyd
Principal

5. Schedule Change Requests - New Information

As of Monday, September 21st, students are able to request schedule changes. Please keep in mind that these are requests and that changing a class is not always possible, other classes may need to change to accommodate the request, and that teachers may change as a result…if the request is approved. Below is the procedure for requesting a course change:

  1. Student will email the request to their counselor (parent/guardian must be copied) indicating the class they want to drop and add
  2. Counselor will respond with the Schedule Change Form for the student, parent/guardian, and teacher to sign
  3. Student and parent will sign the form, then email it to the current teacher who will complete their portion and send it back to the student
  4. Student will email the completed form (student, parent/guardian, and teacher signatures as well as teacher input) as an attachment to their counselor
  5. Counselor will let the student know if the change can be made and, if it is possible, when they will start their new schedule

9. SR&R Parent Acknowledgement Form

The Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair equitable and supportive school environment.  We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your child or teen so that he or she is well prepared for success when the school year begins. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contacts numbers and other resources.

Please complete the Parent Acknowledgement Form that records your acknowledgement of receiving the information as required by law, to complete after reviewing these documents online. The form must be filled out one time per student.

Please reach out to your class administrator if you have any questions about SR&R.

10. Digital Resources - Parent Consent Form

At Woodson, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://woodsonhs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to Kathy Martin, assistant principal overseeing technology at kamartin@fcps.edu if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

11. Virtual Open House Information

If at anytime during the year you would like to have a parent-teacher conference, please contact the teacher directly or your student’s counselor.

13. Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.

Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and a interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.
