National HIspanic Heritage Month

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

It has been an amazing start to the school year!  We also had great attendance all week -- let’s keep it going! To our families, thank you again for your partnership.  The first two weeks of school are laying the foundations for expectations, building relationships, assessing student academic needs, and reviewing content.

As a reminder, Mondays students should sign into their 4th period advisory class from 9:00 - 9:30 AM. This will be a time to build community. The rest of the day students may work on their assigned asynchronous work.

This Tuesday, we kickoff Hispanic Heritage month. Shout out to our Latinx/Hispanic students, families and staff.

We have some wonderful news to share. Christy Hanlon has accepted the position of Director of Student Services at Justice. Ms. Hanlon has most recently been the CTE Education Specialist for Industry Credentials, having been previously a school counselor (Marshall HS, Jackson MS, Justice HS) and an English teacher (NYC). She has a Masters of Education in School Counseling K-12 from The College of William & Mary, a Masters of Arts in Educational Theatre from New York University, and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Theatre: Stage Management and English Literature. She also completed her Administration & Supervision endorsement from the University of Virginia. Ms. Hanlon grew up in FCPS. She attended Parklawn ES, Glasgow MS, and Justice HS. Please join me in welcoming her back to the Justice family.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me or any member of our admin team if you have any questions.

If you have any questions, please email Michelle Campiglia, Assistant Principal, at mrcampiglia@fcps.edu.

Class Material Distribution:

During the week of September 14th, we will be distributing required materials for classes.  Each grade level has a designated day and time:

Schedule

These materials will be distributed from outside of the main gym doors at the curb.  Please stay in your car.  Students (or parent/guardian) should hold up a piece of paper with the student’s complete name.  A staff member will then retrieve the student’s schedule and bring the materials out to the curb.  We ask that anyone coming to the school wear a mask.

*Please note: not all classes have items to be picked up.  Teachers will let students know if their course has something to be picked up during the first week of school.

Before coming to the school, please ask yourself the health questions below.  If you answer “yes” to any of the questions we will accommodate another way to get your materials.

  1. Do you have a cough and/or sore throat?  (YES/NO)
  2. Have you had a fever in the last 72 hours (3 days)?  (YES/NO)
  3. Do you have any shortness of breath or is it hard for you to breathe?  (YES/NO)
  4. Is anyone in your home ill with a fever or a cough?  (YES/NO)
  5. Have you had any contact with someone known to have or under investigation for Coronavirus in the last 14 days (2 weeks)? (YES/NO)

If you have textbooks or materials from the 2019-2020 school year, you should plan to return them during these evenings. Staff will take the books and materials from you at the curb.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Colleen Lally @ clally@fcps.edu

Virtual College Visits will begin the week of 9/18/2020

This year, Justice HS in partnership with Annandale and Falls Church High School will be hosting college and career visits virtually. Upcoming visits will be advertised in Naviance Student under “College Visits”. We are excited about the great potential hosting virtual college and career visits can have on both the number of students and college and career presenters who may be able to participate!

Our school will be a co-participant in these sessions and in most cases, we will be participating in the college or career presenter’s virtual platform that they have configured. While we will make recommendations to the presenters to enhance the security of the session, FCPS is not responsible for any technical issues with the college or career presenter’s virtual meeting platform and the college or career presenter is ultimately responsible for the content of their virtual session. In the event there are any inappropriate exchanges in these sessions not under the college or career presenter’s control, the FCPS staff member in attendance will monitor the session and may recommend participants disconnect.

These college and career visits/presentations are optional for students to participate in and any student or family who has concerns about participating in these virtual sessions should contact me so that I can help connect you with the college directly. Our school will not be providing any student data to the college or career presenter through the session and students are discouraged from doing so. These sessions will not be recorded, and no participants are permitted to record them.

2020-21 Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Fairfax County Public Schools wants all parents to understand its policies regarding surveys, records, curriculum, privacy, and related rights.

In its Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available—a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. Parents with children at different grade levels should read each applicable version of the Annual Notice because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.

Get more information and view the 2020-21 Opt-Out Booklets.
