We are Ready to Kickoff a New School Year!

Thank you for helping your child log into Schoology on Wednesday for our first ever Virtual Orientation! There were a few bumps along the way, but we were pretty pleased with how the orientation went overall.

A reminder, Tuesday, September 8, is our first full day of school! Please make sure you and your child check their schedule on StudentVue so they know what they have for periods 1, 3, 5, & 7 so they know where to login and when. We cannot wait to see you on Tuesday!

Schedules

Please be aware that counselors are still balancing classes throughout the weekend and there is a chance that a schedule change could still happen. Links in Schoology should update automatically for students. Thank you for your flexibility as we try to ensure class sizes that are better balanced.

Forms for 2020-2021 School Year

Please complete the required forms as well any “Optional Forms” that apply to your child. To return signed forms that cannot be directly submitted, you may:

  1. email the forms to qkarim@fcps.edu and in the subject include required forms
  2. mail the forms to Irving Middle School, Hang Nguyen, 8100 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA 22152,
  3. bring them to Irving from 7:30 am-2:00 pm, Monday-Friday. (A staff member will meet you at the door to collect the forms). If you drop off the forms, please make sure they are in an envelope with the student’s first and last name on the outside of the envelope, so we can ensure all forms stay together.

Required Forms

These three required forms must be completed and submitted prior to the start of school. All forms must be signed and dated.

Mark Your Calendars - Our Virtual After School Program is Coming!

To start this school year, we will maintain a fully virtual program and will be following FCPS directions to determine if we will be able to offer any in-person programming later in the year. Regardless of the setting, we are excited to offer a variety of academic and enrichment programs for our students!

Synchronous clubs and activities will begin the week of September 28th.   Activities will run Monday-Thursday during the 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm time window.  On Friday, we will offer activities from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.  We will offer clubs and activities in a variety of topics, including academic intervention/enrichment, anime, art, book club, coding, cooking, drama, fitness/sports, STEAM, and much more!  If your child has an idea for a club they would like to start, please have them contact Ms.Geary (emgeary@fcps.edu).

In order to participate in any after school clubs and activities (virtual or in-person), students must be registered. To ensure your child’s participation, please complete this form:  After School Activities Form

More detailed information about the program including the schedule, program offerings, and club signups will be coming soon, but if you have any questions, please email Emily Geary, our After School Specialist (emgeary@fcps.edu)

News from your PTA!!

It's time to join your PTA!  We're still working behind the scenes to create resources to help you get connected to the FCPS-provided resources for Irving (like ParentVue and Schoology - there are APPs for that!), and provide support to our teachers and staff as they prepare to launch into this new school year and new ways of engaging students!   If you haven't joined the PTA, please follow this link: https://irvingms.new.memberhub.store/ and "View Store." While you are there submitting your membership, you can sponsor a teacher with our "Learning Legends" to give them a shirt and a breakfast that we'll provide in a drive thru environment soon (we're a little over 1/3 of the way to our goal)...and buy a matching shirt for yourself or your child!

We are a registered 501c3 organization, so all of the money that we raise goes directly back to the school by way of mini-grants for teachers (this year, document readers might come in handy for those who need to demonstrate certain techniques like in art), school supplies for students in need, and providing photos at the 8th grade photo booth if they get to have their end of year dance this year.  Your support of the PTA also pays for local and national support that provides opportunities like the list of Special Education workshops (the list is on our FaceBook page: facebook.com/wimspta).

Our first virtual PTA meeting of this school year will be Tuesday, September 22nd at 7PM.  We'll be voting on the budget and submitting our audit to you for review.  Links to both of those items will be available soon through our PTA website in MemberHub, and a link to our meeting will be posted closer to the meeting.

For any questions, you can reach the whole PTA board through our email IrvingMSPTA@gmail.com.  We appreciate your support of our Irving MS PTA!
