Back to School Updates - 9/1

From the Principal's Desk:

I hope that you and your child have enjoyed the Meet and Greet sessions that our teachers have hosted this week. It has been wonderful to begin making connections with our students! We look forward to the Virtual Open House for all classes on Thursday, September 3rd from 9-9:30am. You will also have the option to attend open houses for the specials classes as well from 9:30-11am on this day. Please see the email from your child's teacher earlier this week for more information.

Please continue to look for important communication coming to you from your child's classroom teacher each week. All the information will help you prepare for a smooth transition to virtual classes and our first day of school. We look forward to our virtual start at Louise Archer and we can't wait to begin another year together!

Announcements

Parent Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Louise Archer, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or our SBTS, Chris Jacobs, if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Parent Technology Help Desk

In order to support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools now has a Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7am to 11pm, seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent's behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.

Reminders

Virtual Student Toolkits

Our staff has been working hard to prepare virtual toolkits for students to begin the school year. These toolkits will include additional grade level supplies you will need to support distance learning at home. Distribution will take place on Wednesday, September 2nd, and the schedule for distribution is below.

This will be a drive-by event, meaning that everyone will stay in their car. In order to help the process go smoothly, we ask that you put your child’s last name and first initial along with their grade level on a piece of paper and place it in the front windshield. If you are unable to attend, you may ask a friend to pick up the kit for you.

Schedule for 9/2 - Please pick up the toolkit at the following time based on your child's last name:

  • 12:00-12:30: A-C
  • 12:30-1:00: D-G
  • 1:00-1:30: H-K
  • 1:30-2:00: L-N
  • 2:00-2:30: O-S
  • 2:30-3:00: T-Z
  • 3:00-4:00: Open Pickup

BTSN

Mark your calendar for our virtual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 24th from 5:30-7pm.

Each grade level will present a slideshow and record the presentation so that families who are unable to attend the live session can watch it at their convenience. More information will be available as we get closer to the date.

Back to School Family Information Survey

Our goal is to support your child and your family as we begin the new year and start virtually. In order to help us, we are requesting that you complete the following form for each child in your family. This information will be shared with the classroom teacher and counselors. You may access the survey here.
