Virtual Orientation (All Students)

September 1st @ 9:45 a.m.

Hello New & Returning Jaguar Families,

As we prepare for the start of the school year on September 8th, we want to do all we can to ensure all of our students have a strong start to the year.

We will be hosting a required virtual orientation for all students (grades 9-12) on September 1st at 9:45 a.m.  This virtual orientation will be hosted by students' Advisory teacher (4th Period).

Here is what students can expect:

  • Time to connect with their Advisory teacher and other students
  • A chance to learn about the new bell schedule and advisory period
  • An opportunity to make sure technology needs are met before school starts
  • Tips for success as we begin the school year virtually

Students should have received information from their Advisory teacher through their @fcpsschools.net Gmail account.  Students are expected to respond to the email.  This will allow teachers to know that the message was received and that the student plans to attend the orientation.

It is very important for students to check their @fcpsschools.net Gmail account every day.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact:

Peter Lake, Assistant Principal

Tech Support for Parents and Students

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective Monday, August 24. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Parents or guardians can call this number for basic tech support with parent accounts, help with FCPS student devices and technical assistance with other FCPS applications. If help desk staff members are unable to solve the issue, they will enter a support ticket on behalf of the parent/guardian to escalate the issue to the appropriate FCPS team. Parents who need help in a language other than English can inform the help desk staff when they call of their preferred language, and an interpreter will join in on the call.

FCPS has also set up Parent and Student Technology Support portal at https://itweb.fcps.edu/itsupport/ to allow older students and parents/guardians to request technology help directly. When a support request ticket is entered through the portal, it is auto-routed to the TSSpec at the appropriate site to expedite service.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE -71) and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans (HCP) and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses (PHN) utilize the information contained in the HIF to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health Related Needs.

Both these forms are required for all students for SY 20-21 and are available for electronic submission by parents via their FCPS 24/7 (Blackboard) accounts within the weCare@school (weCare) module.

Reminder - Digital Resources at Falls Church High School

Our teachers are busy creating engaging lessons for students.  Many teachers are hoping to use some powerful digital applications that require parent/guardian consent.  Without consent, teachers will need to plan additional lessons or deviate from a useful application altogether.

This link shares information about those apps (scroll down to "School-Wide Programs):

This link will take you to the consent form:

Thank you for your attention to this important component of distance learning and support of our teachers!

Scoliosis Fact Sheet

To meet the state requirement for the provision of parent educational information on scoliosis, FCHS is required to provide a scoliosis fact sheet to parents or guardians.

ACTION NEEDED ON YOUR FCPSON LAPTOP

  2. Turn the device on and let it boot up.
  3. Ensure that the laptop is connected to the internet.
  4. Let the device sit for 30 minutes. No additional action is required.
  5. Do this once per week to ensure the laptop has the latest updates.

Please continue these practices throughout the entire school year:

  • Turn your laptop on for a minimum of 30 minutes every week(you don’t need to be signed in).
