Annandale Community:

As we head into the final week of teacher professional development before the return of students on September 8, I wanted to provide you information that will better prepare you and your student(s) for the start of the school year.

Bell Schedule: Below is the Annandale bell schedule. Students will be engaged Tuesday through Friday with four synchronous classes per day. Synchronous instruction will include teacher-led instruction, collaborative work time, and independent work time that may also include targeted and small-group support.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are “Red Days” and students will meet with their classes in periods R1, R3, R5 and R7. Wednesdays and Fridays are “White Days” and students will meet with their even day classes, periods W2, W4, W6, and W8. Each class block will be 80 minutes in length and will be held through Google Meet. W4 will continue to be our social emotional learning block (SEL).

Mondays will be used for intervention, enrichment and support. All students will be provided with asynchronous work, to be completed outside of regular class time and may be completed on Mondays. In addition, on Mondays, all students are expected to login with their W4 teacher between 9:45-10:15am. Students should plan to attend class virtually for the duration of the period and attendance will be taken.

Student Schedules: On Wednesday, September 2, student schedules will be available for students and parents to view via StudentVue and ParentVue

Virtual Opening: Annandale will host a Virtual Opening on Wednesday, September 2 from 9:45-11:05am. By Tuesday, Students will receive an email to their fcpsschools.net account from their W4 teacher welcoming them to the new year and detailing how they can access the event.

The purpose of this event is to ensure all students can access virtual instruction prior to the start of school and will help us identify and troubleshoot needs. This will also be a time when we can start to build relationships and classroom communities, provide information to students, and answer questions from students and family members.

9th Grade and New Student Orientation: This year, we have created a set of videos for our 9th grade and new students to support their transition to Annandale High School. In addition to the videos being posted on the website, all 9th grade and new students will receive an email on Thursday, September 3. The videos will provide them a virtual tour of Annandale High School and introduction to some student leaders, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Students will also get to learn about mental health resources, activities, academics, and technology.

Town Hall Meetings: Annandale will host two town hall meetings on Thursday, September 3 in English and Spanish to assist parents with their students’ transition back to school. The Spanish language town hall will be from 5:00-6:00pm and the English language town hall is from 6:00-7:00pm.

Please ensure that your contact information is up-to-date by visiting the FCPS 24-7 website. I look forward to answering your questions at the town hall meetings. Otherwise, please do not be afraid to reach out to your students’ counselor, administrator or me if you have any questions.

Important Information

We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources: At Annandale High School, our teachers will use a variety of powerful digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. Without consent, teachers will need to plan additional lessons or deviate from a useful application altogether. You can find our school’s list of the resources here: https://annandalehs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Please follow this link to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval.

Laptop Prep Before the Start of the School Year: To help prepare students for a successful virtual start to the school year, parents are asked to ensure children have the tools and connectivity that will be needed.  If you currently have an FCPS issued laptop at home, please help your school’s technology team prepare devices to receive county updates by doing the following once per week until school starts:

  • Plug the laptop into an outlet.
  • Turn the laptop on and let it boot up.
  • Login to ensure it connects to the internet at that location.
  • Launch Google Chrome and visit the FCPS website to ensure the internet is connected on the computer.
  • Leave the laptop on and connected to the internet for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, the laptop may be shut down.

Return to School Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Families - The changing course of the COVID-19 pandemic with infection rates surging both nationally and regionally has required FCPS to alter our plans for school year 2020-21. We will begin the school year with virtual learning for all students on September 8. Click here for the "Return to School Frequently Asked Quested for Families" website.

Athletic Physical Needed Starting September 8 - In order to continue to participate in athletic “Yellow Days-conditioning” and move into “Green Days-individual skill development”, athletes will need to have a physical dated after May 1, 2020.  We hope to start Green Days on September 8.  Physicals can be turned into the Activities Office now.
