Eaglegram

Dear Clermont Families,

As we gear up for the start of school, Open House is right around the corner on September 3. It will be virtual, and the times are listed in this Eagle Gram by grade level. This week, classroom teachers began making phone calls to families to introduce themselves to you as your child’s teacher. Teachers will continue to make calls over the weekend and into the start of next week. It is a good idea to check your messages for any missed calls from numbers you may not recognize. Your initial phone call will be followed up by an email with instructions to log on for our Virtual Open House. Our goal is to make sure every student and their family knows how to access their classes before Tuesday, September 8.

Please know that due to the unusual circumstances we currently find ourselves in with COVID-19, our enrollment is fluctuating more than is typical at this time of year. This fluctuating enrollment may have an impact on our school’s staffing over the next few weeks. Should changes to teacher assignments be required, we will communicate with the impacted families in advance and provide supports to assist with building relationships between new classmates and teachers in order to ensure everyone has a successful school year.

Our laptop distribution is still in process. If you have not had an opportunity to select a time for your child to pick up a computer in grades K, 1, 2, and 3 please see the links in this email. If you missed laptop distribution for grades 4, 5, and 6, please contact Mrs. Gibson at LMGibson@fcps.edu to schedule an alternative time to pick up your laptop.

Thank you for your continued support of Clermont Elementary School as we navigate this unusual start to the school year. I will continue to share information and updates so that you and your family are as prepared as you can be for this new school year.

Take care of yourself and each other.

Ms. Salata, Principal

Laptop Distribution

This year, all Clermont ES students will be issued an FCPS laptop. It is our goal to ensure that all students can actively participate in distance learning for the 2020-21 school year. Every child will need a dedicated computer and the FCPS issued laptop will contain pre-populated shortcuts on the desktop to our frequently used programs.

In order to maintain safe social distancing and safety protocols, all families must sign-up for an appointment to pick-up their FCPS issued laptop and wear a mask when coming into the building. You will be required to complete a health screening before entering the cafeteria. There will be a QR code on the door; you can scan and complete the screening online the day of the distribution or fill out a paper copy when you arrive at Clermont.

Laptop distribution events will take place in the cafeteria. It can take some time for the student's profile to load onto the laptop for the first time - please allow yourself 15 to 30 minutes for this process. Students should be present to pick up laptops. If a student already has an FCPS laptop from the spring distribution, they should bring it with them on their laptop distribution date and exchange it for a new laptop. (Sibling's laptops will also be available at the below distribution dates.)

FCPS Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, Fairfax County Public Schools is launching a new Parent Technology Help Desk, effective today, Monday, August 24. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.

Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and a interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.

Parents, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Clermont, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: clermontes.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.
