Meet Our New Staff Members!

We are so excited for you to meet this all-star cast of new CWES staff members!

mabry

MABRY LEWIS, 6th GRADE

I’m so excited to be teaching at Canterbury Woods! This will be my first year teaching as well as my first time living in Virginia. I’m from Illinois but it’s easier to say I’m from St. Louis since I lived 10 minutes from downtown! With that being said, I’m a huge Blues fan but an even bigger TJ Oshie fan so rooting for the Capitals will not be a problem :) In my free time I enjoy working out, hiking, doing yoga, and of course spending time with my dog Reece. I’m looking forward to this new journey and what this year can bring!

nelson

LYNN NELSON, 5th GRADE

I am originally from rural Minnesota but lived in the DC area for 7 years teaching music in Prince George's County, and then for a year in Boston. I moved back home to Minnesota for a few years to spend time with family. I taught Title One Math and Reading and I also just graduated with my Master of Arts in Teaching! (I'm holding my thesis in my picture since we haven't received our diplomas yet due to COVID.)

I just moved this summer, so I'm still adjusting from my small-town bubble (less than 1,000 people) to the DC Metro area hustle and bustle, but I am truly excited to be back! My hobbies include all things music- playing the piano, guitar, drums, and singing. And if coffee could be considered as an interest- it's at the top of my list. I'm so excited to join the team at CWES!

becca

BECCA SMITH

I am the new Learning Disabilities teacher at CWES. I’ve been at Canterbury Woods for 6 years as a Kindergarten IA. I live in Burke with my husband Justin, daughter Emily and son Dylan. I have 2 rescue pups, 2 very well fed guineas pigs, 1 parakeet, and a horse. In my spare time, I’m binge watching shows on Netflix, horseback riding, or reading while rocking on my front porch. I am so excited to continue to be apart of such an amazing school family!

street

BROOKE STREET, 4th-5th GRADE

I served as a Special Education Instructional Assistant working with students at various grade levels last year. I am so excited to be the Multiple Disabilities teacher for 4th and 5th grade this year! I love doing puzzles, reading, taking long walks with my dog, and hiking! Looking forward to a great school year with you all.

suzanne

SUZANNE THWEATT, 5th GRADE

I will be teaching 5th grade aap. I love theater and love going to Broadway shows. The Lion King and Annie are two of my favorite shows. I love watching ballet. New York City Ballet and the Marinsky ballet are my favorite ballet companies.  I am also a Dallas Cowboys fan.

tingley

BRIAN TINGLEY, Counselor Grades 1,3,5 & DHH

I am a diehard sports fan that will be a New York Giants football fan all my days while marveling over the number of rings from the New York Yankees. Born and raised in upstate New York (Binghamton), I attended Gallaudet University for both my Bachelors and Masters, and am proud to be back in the DMV area with all of you. I worked for California School for the Deaf in Riverside, CA and University High School in Irvine, CA the past four plus years.

I am truly excited to be a part of the CWES family and community.  I did my student internship at CWES in Fall of 2014 and am happy to be back!

PE

AMBER TRZCINSKI, P.E.

I will be the new Physical Education teacher this year! I have been a PE teacher for five years. I graduated from George Mason and was a part of the cheerleading team. I am also a FCPS grad from Robinson Secondary. My favorite part of teaching is creating amazing relationships with my students! I am a competitive Irish dancer, lover all things Disney, and an avid crafter.
