Keeping Westlawn Families Informed
Greetings Westlawn Families,
I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. Westlawn is an amazing community, and I am honored to serve as your interim principal in the transition period until a new principal is named. I understand the continuation of an all virtual setting creates many challenges. I am working with our school leadership team and PTA to organize our 2020-21 school year opening. Class Placement Information Mailed
Parents should expect a letter from the school by Friday, August 28 from the school with the following information:
- Teacher
- Supply List
- Health Form
- Emergency Care Card
Parents can also use ParentVUE to see teacher assignments.
Virtual Family Orientation Sessions for Grades 1-6 : September 1- September 3
Virtual Family Orientation Session 1: Tuesday, September 1, 2020
Students and families will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, practice logging in using their classroom link and learn more about the daily schedule. Librarians, Art, Music and PE teachers will also hold Virtual Sessions for families to learn more about synchronous instruction and what to expect for Grade Level Specialists. Families may choose the date that works best for their schedule. Links will be provided by classroom teachers in an email on Wednesday, August 26.

Virtual Family Orientation Session 3: Thursday, September 3, 2020
Teachers will meet with families who were unable to attend on Tuesday or Wednesday. These will be scheduled on an individual basis.
Kindergarten Virtual Orientation: September 1st - Sept 3rd by appointment with teacher
Students and families who are entering kindergarten will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, practice logging in using their classroom link and learn more about the daily schedule in a 1:1 setting. If you did not meet your teacher during laptop distribution, you will receive an email from your child’s teacher on Wednesday, August 26 to set up a time to meet individually. Interpreters will be available.
Talking Points Application –
Communication Tool for Teachers and Parents
In an effort to improve communication between home and school, Westlawn will use an “app”called Talking Points App to text message families about classroom news and community events. Teachers will share information about Talking Points App at Virtual Orientations next week.
