Laptop Distribution at Kings Glen
To help ensure each child’s success with FCPS’ Virtual Learning, we are offering Kings Glen laptop computers to all students at Kings Glen. Please read through the attached Device Parent Permission Form. You may bring a completed and signed copy with you or you will be provided a hard copy to complete during distribution.
Kings Glen will begin student Laptop distribution on August 24, 25, 26 from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. each day. You will be assigned a specific time slot for you and your student to arrive at Kings Glen and complete the log-on process. This will be communicated to you via email.
NOTE: If your child currently has an FCPS device from Kings Glen, please bring the device on the day you are assigned to for distribution. Your child will be receiving a new computer. Returning KG students will return previously issued laptops and will receive a new device during their assigned Laptop distribution time slot. Students not returning to Kings Glen will be contacted to arrange plans for returning their school-issued laptop.
We will do contactless pickup in the front bus loop, 20 families per 30 minutes. Families will stay in their vehicle; a laptop will be handed through the window and directions given to have the student log in. There will be student desks set up by the entrance to the library for parents without vehicles.
One parent/guardian and your child(ren) need to be in attendance. Please write your child’s name on a large piece of paper and display this in the windshield of your vehicle when pull into the bus loop at Kings Glen. Stay in your car and pull as far forward in the bus loop as you are able. A staff member will ask that you roll down the window, collect the required Device Parent Permission Form and hand a laptop and power cord to your child. Your child(ren) will be asked to log onto the FCPS laptop and will go through several log-on steps to establish their user profile, this will take approximately 15 minutes. If your child does not remember or know their FCPS logon, the process will take longer, and a staff member will assist.
After the laptop process is complete, please exit the bus loop and drive through the Kiss N Ride line (Entrance 3). Once there, a Kings Glen staff member will provide your child with additional materials to assist him/her as we begin the 2020-2021 school year. All Kings Glen students will be receiving a white board, plastic sleeve (for reusable hard copy materials), and some art supplies. Other materials are also provided based on individual programs a student might be accessing. Information from the PTA and Fairfax County will also be included in the materials bag.

FCPS has purchased devices for all 5th and 6th grade students at Kings Glen. As a school, we have enough computers for all 4th graders. If you choose to use a personal device in place of an FCPS-issued laptop, the personal device needs a screen, keyboard, webcam and microphone. The personally-owned device must be able to run Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office products. FCPS does not have the licensing authority to install applications on personal devices, so parents would be responsible for securing any necessary apps their child may need that are not web-based. Please also note that FCPS cannot provide tech support for personally owned devices.
Technology to Start the Virtual School Year
Technology Access for Every Student
FCPS will provide all students laptops to use for online learning this school year. We will send information on the laptop distribution process which will occur later in August. Parents and caregivers will be able to pick up computers with minimal contact and without having to access FCPS buildings.
Technology Supports for Parents and Students
FCPS is also increasing technical support to families and students.
Support includes:
- Providing technology access to students and families
- Launching a help desk for parents
- Developing a portal to allow students to request technology help directly
- Developing methods for students to manage class links in their Google Calendar
