Announcements #2

New School Counselor

I am pleased to welcome Mrs. Brooke Kirtner who joined our school counseling team this summer. She is a graduate of the University of Miami and earned her master’s degree in school counseling from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. We selected her from a large applicant pool, and we are thrilled to welcome her to George C. Marshall High School!

School counselors will spend the rest of August fine-tuning student schedules and working on a student needs assessment to determine the best way to support our students this school year. We continue to develop our Freshman Transition Program-FTP and our 20-21 social emotional learning lessons. We look forward to welcoming you back to school! Email is the best way to reach counselors:

Please know that we realize how important this is and we will work with you to make it happen.

Unlike the 4th quarter of last school year, teachers will be assigning letter grades each quarter this year. Students should complete all assigned work as instructed by the teacher.

The SAT will be given in school on September 23rd to GCM seniors who wish to take advantage of this opportunity. Fees will be paid for by FCPS. More information will follow soon.

The PSAT will occur October 29th at Marshall high School. The exam will ONLY be given to GCM juniors at no charge to families.

Marshall High School is one of several FCPS schools who will be an early adopter of the division’s new learning management system (LMS) called Schoology. All teachers will use Schoology this year for homework, assessments (some), posting documents, etc. FCPS will soon provide families with support will help familiarize students to this new platform.

Computer Cameras

It is not a requirement that students turn on their camera during synchronous instruction. This is a choice that can be made by the student and/or the student’s family.

After school Theory of Knowledge (TOK) will happen this year on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 PM – 4:50 PM.

Seniors and Sports
