Bailey's Upper ES News You Choose

A Message From Principal Lemmon

Dear Families,

Our teachers returned to work last Friday and we are busy making plans for a smooth virtual opening. We have nine new staff members that we are thrilled to bring on board. Please see their names, teaching assignments, and pictures below.

As we shared on Friday in the NYC, laptop distributions begin this week.

Laptop Distribution Schedule

Using an FCPS laptop is not required; however, if you have an Apple at home, it may make some directions from the teacher seem different as she shares where to find buttons and such.

Below is our plan for hopefully over communicating with you about our virtual opening.  Our goal is to ensure each child is ready to logon at 8:30 AM on September 8th.  Therefore we will be sharing some of the same information multiple times and in multiple formats.

August 19th-25th

Teachers will call families to schedule a time between August 28th and August 31st for an individual meeting with families to ensure children can login. Teachers will ask families to check their student's email for asynchronous information on virtual learning. This will be coming August 27th to go through all the information as a family.

August 27th

An asynchronous presentation will be sent to your child’s FCPS email.

September 1st

We will host a Virtual Open House with Parents. Teachers will send specific links to each family via the student email address.

  • All Grade Levels 8:30AM or 4PM in English (Separate Link per teacher)
  • 3rd Grade Spanish 7PM (One Link per Grade Level)
  • 4th Grade Spanish 6PM (One Link per Grade Level)
  • 5th Grade Spanish 5PM (One Link per Grade Level)

September 1st

Agenda: 45 Minutes

  • 5 Minutes Check-in While Families Are Logging In
  • 5 Minutes How To Set Our Children Up For Success
  • 20 Minutes BbCU and Google Meets Overview
  • 5 Minutes Technology Tips and Reporting Issues
  • 5 Minutes Review Class Schedules
  • 5 Minutes Questions and Answers (Please note each family will have already had an individual meeting time with the teacher to answer questions and parents can request additional time if needed after this meeting.)

September 2nd Virtual Open House With ALL Students 8:30AM

Agenda

  • Community Builder
  • BBCU and Google Meets Overview
  • Class Schedules
  • What to do if there is an issue on September 8th

We will then spend the remainder of the days prior to September 8th following up with families to ensure all children are ready on September 8th

All student passwords have been reset for the new year.  There are 3 ways your child can receive the new password since it cannot be sent in an email.

  1. When your child comes to their laptop distribution time, we will provide them the password and they can login.
  2. Teachers will be contacting all of their students next week and can share the password over the phone with you at this time.
  3. Parents/Guardians can call the main office to receive the password over the phone.

In terms of school supplies, we have received a donation of 500 bags of supplies that include headsets, notebooks, dry erase boards, markers, colored pencils, erasers, crayons, and glue. We are about 50 short in terms of having enough for each child. If you already have a headset and can provide the other supplies, I ask that you pass at this time. We will pass these supplies out at laptop distributions and re-offer to families, once our social services team ensures that all children in need have the supplies.  Once we have sometime in the virtual field, we may request more or different supplies.  Right now we are on hold and will provide more information as we receive it in regards to Art Supplies.

Teachers will be sharing schedules with each class. The schedules are a bit different because we wanted to include all the magnet special classes such as creative movement, strings, band, and science lab. We will be also offering special interventions and clubs on Monday’s from 8:30 to 11:30. Bailey’s News Network (BNN), will start promptly each day at 8:30. Our class morning meeting will begin at 8:40. I ask all families to please have children logon at 8:30 am. Lunch and family choice each day will be from 11:30 to 12:30 to enable families to access meals at Bailey’s Primary.

Please be on the lookout for information about Emergency Care Card forms.  We are hopeful that we will be receiving fillable forms that can be submitted online for our office.

I hope everyone is well. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to help solve,  answer questions, and support families. The staff and I are committed to making this a solid learning experience for all. We choose to be positive, optimistic, hard working and caring!  You can count on us to be responsive and do our best to support each family and each child!

Home Communications

To best help us communicate, please have an updated mobile phone listed in SIS. This will enable teachers to text you in your home language using talkingpoints.com.  Additionally, our school uses technology to send phone calls with pertinent information. If you miss a call from our school, please check your voicemail and/or texts prior to calling us back. We often receive almost 100 calls after sending a voice message to families and we do not have ample staff in the building to respond to that many calls at this time.
