Sangster Laptop Pick-up This Week and Password Reset

Dear Sangster Families,

This is a reminder about Sangster’s laptop distribution schedule this week and updated information about student passwords.

Although families are not required to take an FCPS device and can opt-out, we strongly recommend you accept an FCPS device for the ease of use it will provide your child and the access to programs that will not be available on personal devices.

Laptop Distribution Schedule

Sangster’s laptop distribution will take place Monday, August 17, 2020 – Thursday, August 20, 2020.  The pick-up of student laptops will be scheduled based on your “oldest OR only” child’s grade level for the 2020-2021 school year.

If you have only one child at Sangster, please follow the pick-up date/time of your child’s grade level and the first initial of your child's last name below. Parents with multiple children should select the laptop pick-up date/time of their oldest child’s grade level listed below. The laptops for younger siblings will be ready for pick-up at this time as well.  The goal is to have families make only one trip to Sangster for the pick-up of student laptops. The bus loop will be closed.  Please park in the staff parking lot or on Reservation Drive.

Please follow the protocols listed below to ensure a safe and efficient pick-up of student laptops:

  1. Prior to arrival, please fill out and print the Sangster ES Student Computer/Device Program form for each child you have at Sangster ES.  If you have three (3) children at Sangster ES, you will need to bring three (3) forms with you when you come to pick-up laptops.  The form can be located Here.
  2. This is a rain or shine event.  Laptop covers/cases are not provided. Laptop chargers are provided.  If it is raining, please plan to bring a bag or umbrella.  You may only pick-up laptops belonging to your child/children. Only one (1) parent per family. Students and/or younger children are not permitted.
  3. All staff and parents must wear a mask. Parents must practice social distancing of at least 6 feet while waiting in line.  Please bring your own pen.
  4. Please arrive at Sangster during your designated window based on the oldest or only schedule above.  Please park on Reservation Dr. or in the Sangster staff parking lot, not the Sangster bus loop.
  5. Upon arrival, there will be 5 stations of Sangster staff members waiting to assist you near the front entrance of the school.

Student Password Reset Clarification

At the last PTA meeting, it was shared that FCPS would be able to extend student passwords for the 2020-21 school year.  However, with the anticipation of quickly and safely distributing more than 925 laptops during our Sangster student laptop pick-up scheduled over four days, all Sangster students have had their passwords reset to allow for a safer, more efficient distribution for parents and staff. Our laptop distribution schedule is robust and requires a quick and efficient system in place to be successful.   You can always reset your password to one of your choosing once you receive this year’s update.

  • If you are picking up a laptop at Sangster this week, your child(ren)’s password will be reset at that time.
  • If you already have an FCPS laptop at home from last spring’s distribution, you will need to bring your computer back to school to have your password reset.
  • If you are not picking-up a laptop and electing to use your own device for distance learning, please email Ms. Jankovich at ALJankovich@fcps.edu, beginning Friday, August 21 so she can assist you in resetting your child’s password.

All students should have and know their passwords by Wednesday, September 2 for our Virtual Orientation and be ready for the first day of school on September 8, 2020.   Our School-Based Technology Specialist (SBTS), Debbie Tannenbaum is also available throughout the school year to assist you with technical questions at dltannenbaum@fcps.edu.

Laptop Insurance

FCPS does not currently offer an option for families to purchase laptop insurance. For any damaged or lost School Board property, families are responsible for reimbursement in accordance with the SR&R and School Board regulations. Families may wish to check their homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policies for coverage options or search online for insurance companies which offer insurance policies exclusively for student laptops.

2019 – 2020 Yearbook Pick-Up

As a result of the COVID-19 national pandemic, the distribution of the 2019 – 2020 yearbooks from Lifetouch is delayed. We had hoped yearbooks would be available to pass out during laptop distribution, however Lifetouch has informed us it will be a few more weeks. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and flexibility. We will let you know as soon as they are available.
