Cub Run News 08-12-2020

Cub Run Families,

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to finalize plans for the upcoming year. We will be holding a virtual Question & Answer session for parents on Thursday, August 20 from 6:00PM – 7:00PM. Look for information via e Notify (email) on Wednesday, August 19 on how to join the meeting. During this session we will share information about the start of the school year and will be available to answer questions.

Bell Schedule

The first day of school is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

Our virtual school day for the 2020-2021 school year for grades K-6 will begin at 8:40am and end at 3:25pm for Tuesday - Friday. For Preschool and PAC, the day will begin at 9:15am and end at 3:55pm for Tuesday – Friday.

Monday’s schedule is still being finalized and will be shared with families soon, but it is important to note that students may only be engaged in synchronous learning for 30- 40 minutes that would occur before 11:30am. The rest of the day students could be engaged in asynchronous work and Family Choice Activities. The afternoon on Monday is for teacher planning and professional development and training.

Student Laptop Checkout for 20-21

This year, ALL students at Cub Run have the opportunity to checkout a school laptop in support of virtual learning.  If you are interested and in order for us to plan accordingly, please respond to this survey by Monday, 8/17: https://forms.gle/sVuQ7Xsj6dE1yF1V7 (Chrome browser recommended)

Additional Information:

  • Kindergarten families who already checked-out a laptop in support of Kinder Camp, may disregard this survey.
  • Families who respond to the survey, will be contacted with additional details (including specific onsite checkout instructions) in the coming weeks.
  • Use of an FCPS-issued laptop is dependent on WiFi Internet access at home AND a family member’s ability to configure its access on the FCPS-issued laptop from home.  If you do not have access at home, please do not request to checkout a laptop at this time.  Instead, please complete the following form if you are interested in checking out a MiFi device (cellular Internet access): https://forms.gle/iiXSRL2k7HXLEATK8  Once we confirm availability of a MiFi device, we will follow-up to make arrangements for checking out a laptop at the same time.

Open House and Class Placement Information

Each teacher will host a virtual 1:1 Meet and Greet/Open House with their students and family on September 1 or September 2. More information will be sent from the teacher to assist with signing up for a time. Class Placement information will be communicated with families on August 27 via email.

Virtual Student Supplies

In conjunction with our amazing PTA, we are putting together a basic supply kit for each student to begin the school year. These supply kits will include a white board and marker, headphones, watercolor set, sketchpad, jump rope, construction paper, blank white paper, journals, ABC charts, number lines, hundreds of charts and other instructional tools/supports that support specific grade level curriculum needs. Families are still encouraged to purchase the supplies noted on our grade level supply lists that can be found on our website.
