Dear Fairfax,
Another week of planning has come and gone in preparation for our full staff’s return. We have been reviewing questions submitted by for both our student and family town hall meetings next week—there is a lot of information to include, and as a reminder, you can also review the FCPS Return to Learn plan as well. https://www.fcps.edu/returntoschool
If you would like to attend a student or parent town hall, please register at the following link: Town Hall Registration You will be sent an email with a link to attend. Times are also listed in the registration form.
It isn’t too late to submit your questions, please do so here: Student Town Hall Q and A Form Parent Town Hall Q and A Form
August 24th, 26th, and 28th, our new students and incoming freshmen will be able to pick up their laptops—in a most unique way! We have been boosting our WIFI capabilities and range, so our students and parents can setup their laptops from the parking lot. As a reminder, laptops should be powered on, plugged in, and connected to WIFI for at least one hour/week until school starts. Students can access the Student Den from their device for tech information, protocols, and support.
It’s time to return your textbooks, novels, and other class materials from last school year. Please plan to return your materials during one of these times:
- Monday, August 17, 12:00--3:00
- Tuesday, August 18, 8:00--11:00
- Wednesday, August 19, 4:00--7:00
Prior to arriving at FHS, please make sure you can answer “NO” to all of the questions on the Health Questionnaire. Please wear a mask, and enter the school parking lot using the bus lane and stop at door 1. Remain in your car, and a staff member will take the books and materials from you.
If you cannot return your materials during one of these times, cannot attend a distribution or collection for any reason, or need an accommodation of any kind, please contact your subschool administrator.

Families who do not wish to receive a school laptop, can opt-out of receiving the laptop for the 2020-2021 School Year. To opt-out, please complete the opt-out form and submit it to the student’s administrator no later than the end of first quarter, Friday, October 30, 2020. Opt-out forms can be turned into the school in one of three ways:
- Scanned and emailed to the student’s administrator

- Completed in person at Fairfax High School during laptop distribution days.
On your scheduled date of pickup, please arrive at Fairfax HS and enter the parking lot via the entrance by the Football field from Lion Run. There will be signs indicating which way to enter and staff will direct you accordingly. After receiving your laptop, students will login and complete a set of instructions while on site. For students who cannot attend any of the pickup days, an alternate date will be made available the following week. Please look for this information in next week’s News You Choose communication.
Mifi Requests
- Families who do not have an internet connection at home can request a mifi device by contacting the student’s counselor.
Students: Please Update Your School Devices
Students, we do need you to update your school device: Starting now, plug in your devices for twenty-four (24) hours weekly, and ensure they are logged onto a wireless network. Updates are being pushed out remotely. This is essential to our virtual start to our school year.
