Principal's Message

Last Friday, I had the great pleasure to virtually welcome our teachers back virtually for the 2020 school year. While building connections with each other, we are hard at work immersed in professional development of new virtual instructional practices.

The 2020 brings a few more staff changes since the close of the year.  Mrs. Sivik has accepted a teaching position in Maine, closer to family, and Mrs. Sink will be taking a year of leave with her young daughter.

We have an energetic and talented team joining us this school year. They have jumped right into building relationships with new colleagues and preparing for the 2020 school year alongside our veteran staff. In addition to our new teachers, Mrs. Kohout will be transitioning from 1st grade to our Special Education team.

This summer, Dr. Beaty and I have collaborated, planned and immersed ourselves in professional development to lead our staff and community through this difficult time. We are strategically breaking down the work to focus on four pillars: Building Relationships, Engagement and Participation, Authentic Learning Opportunities and becoming Digital Experts.  These four pillars are all wrapped in the key groundwork of keeping equity at the center of our work. I am committed to ensuring each student feels valued and appreciated for what they bring to Chesterbrook. We strive for equitable practices that meet the needs of each and every one of our students. As your principal, I commit to you that I will do the hard work that needs to be done to benefit our community and I hope you will partner with us to share your voice and help us to better our practices. We will be sharing more on our focus for work around equity in the beginning of the school year.

Kicking off this school year, our staff proposed and then voted on our 2020 theme.  The theme for this year is Together We Can!  I don't think we could say it better. With your support and joint partnership, we will get our children through a school year like no other.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

School Year 2020-21 Student Laptop Distribution Requests

It is important that every child, K-6, have their own computer for instruction this school year.  Will your child need a laptop?  Please complete the updated distribution survey, so we can prepare for this process.  The survey form will allow parents to enter a request for up to three children in a family.  If you have more than three children, please enter an additional survey request.

Please know, you are not taking from another child by requesting a computer.

School Tips for Parents - Virtual Session

Date:  Tuesday, August 25  7-8 PM

Are you interested in learning how you can help your child(ren) transition back to school in this new virtual learning world?  If so, this parent session is for you.  Hear thoughts and ideas from elementary, middle, and high school staff on how to support students as they transition from summer break back to school.  We’re all in this together and can support and learn from one another as we navigate this change.

Presented by McLean Pyramid school counseling and clinical staff.

We will send the link to the session, one hour before it begins, and the session will be recorded and available for viewing for those who are unable to attend.

School Supplies

2020 Back to School Supply List for Virtual Opening

There are a few additional supplies needed for all grade levels for virtual instruction.

As we prepare for the opening of the 2020 school year, we want to encourage you to begin thinking about your child's learning space. Students will need a space to be on the computer, focus and have a writing workspace. A table or desk area  where there feed can reach the floor would be ideal.

Students will need supplies, most of which are from the Sprout supply kit which you may have ordered.  Supply kits are on track to be ready for distribution the week of August 31st.

We are here to support you.
If you are in need of support to help your child obtain the supplies they need, there is support. Please contact Chesterbrook school counselor, Heather Lomelin or social worker, Maria Mahoney.

Health Information & Emergency Care Form

Complete now Electronically in FCPS 24-7 / WeCare

We are working to find the best way to complete forms virtually.  You may begin this process with the Health Information and Emergency Care Forms.

In FCPS 24/7 Blackboard, you can access the weCare module to update both forms.  We are required to have these completed at the start of each school year to meet regulations.Forms are due by September 7, 2020.
