WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Message from the Principal

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

I know this has been a roller coaster of a summer. Thank you for your continued support as we navigate the many changes.

Thank you for the feedback you provided on our spring virtual learning. Your feedback will help us provide the best possible virtual learning experience in September.

Here are a few key differences planned for virtual learning this fall:
• Smaller class sizes
• Laptop access for students K-6
• Grading and feedback on work
• Specials (Music, Physical Education, Art, etc.)
• Class meetings (daily Tuesday – Friday)

A few notes:
• We are working on making our specific grade level schedules and will provide that information to families as soon as possible, hopefully this week. We plan to begin all of our sessions at 8:30 AM.

• Information on technology distribution will come out in August. In the survey FCPS sent out earlier this month, you were asked to indicate if your child had access to a computer and to wifi. We will have a laptop available for every student who requests one. Wifi will only be available to families who do not have access currently, as there are very limited devices. If you need to update this information, please email ksholmes@fcps.edu by August 13, 2020.

• If you ordered school supplies through the PTA, they will be delivered to the school; we will schedule an opportunity for you to pick them up. We will be working to modify school supply lists to meet the needs for learning from home.

• Families who have a WFES laptop at home should do the following once per week beginning in August:
o Plug the device into an outlet.
o Turn the device on and let it boot up.
o Ensure it is connected to the internet at that location.
o Let the device sit for 30 minutes. No additional logins or activities are required.

• School offices remain closed except by appointment. Families can register students by contacting ksholmes@fcps.edu.

We are working hard to plan and prepare as we receive information and we will turn this around to the community as soon as possible.

Wakefield Forest ES families are invited to participate in a shared conversation around Cultural Proficiency/Cultural Responsiveness in the Woodson pyramid on August 11 at 7-8 pm. This town hall will be facilitated by Equity Leads and administrators from each school and will allow schools to draw similarities for future work around equity and Cultural Proficiency/Cultural Responsiveness throughout our pyramid schools. Each school will hold a follow-up town hall at another time to share specific actions happening in each individual school to address Cultural Proficiency/Cultural Responsiveness. A link to this conversation will be sent to families on Tuesday, August 11.
