Laptop Distribution for the start of school is coming!
School issued laptops will be available for pickup for incoming 9th Graders and for new students from Wednesday, August 19th through Friday August 21st, 2020.
The MVHS Technology team will be available to support your student with:
- Securing an FCPS school issued laptop and power cord for the 2020-21 Academic Year
- Logging into the FCPS Network the first time
- Resetting student passwords (if needed)
- Troubleshooting connection issues for the FCPS laptop
The distribution schedule and process have been designed to provide the safest and most efficient method to insure your child is ready to begin the school year virtually.
To secure a device, students need their School (Student) ID number and last year’s account password. If your student cannot remember last year’s password, it can be recovered, managed and changed by clicking on this link: https://itweb.fcps.edu/accountrecovery/index.cfm
Laptops will be distributed based on the following schedule:
Wednesday, August 19th, 2020
(8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) - Last Names A – H
Thursday, August 20th, 2020
(8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) – Last Names I – Q
Friday, August 21st, 2020
(8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) – Last Name R- Z
Due to individual school inventories, MVHS will not be able to issue an updated laptop if your student currently has one checked out from another school. Please return the device to the previous school before your designated pickup date and time.
If you decide to receive a laptop from MVHS, an annual technology support fee of $50 will be charged to student accounts. This fee will help ensure students have access to the technology, reduce costs for repairs and for replacement equipment. The fee is billed centrally by FCPS.
Students may choose to use their own laptop in place of an FCPS issued device. If you choose to use a personal laptop, the device must have a keyboard, be compatible with G Suite Tools (Google Apps for Education), Microsoft Office and must be compatible with the school Wi-Fi. School tech support will not be available for any personally owned laptops. FCPS instructional applications and software are licensed for FCPS devices and cannot be installed on personal laptops. Students must complete a signed Opt-Out Form if a personal computer will be used. FCPSOn information including Opt-Out forms and Technology Fee details are available on the FCPS website. The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will continue to offer mental wellness consultations throughout the summer. If you have concerns about your child’s well-being or if your child would like to speak with a school psychologist or school social worker, please request a consultation. Our FCPS mental health providers are available to help families get needed support through a 45-minute phone consultation or through secure video conferencing. Appointments are open to all FCPS families.
Consultations are offered in two ways:
-
Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social-emotional, behavioral, or academic functioning. Information about community resources will also be made available.
-
Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides support and strategies to students who may be experiencing difficulties with anxiety, mood, behavior, or peer or family interactions; as well as academic challenges such as organization, time-management, or adjusting to a new school.
We encourage parents to take advantage of this service. Click here to request a consultation. You may also leave us a message at 571-423-4276.
